Daily Inspiration: Meet Emma Erion-Brewer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Erion-Brewer

Hi Emma, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Originally from the Washington, DC area, I’ve always loved art and studied Painting & Printmaking at Virginia Commonwealth University. Painting 24/7 for 4 years kind of wore me down though, so I took a break from art for few years after graduating and just focused on building my career in marketing.

I got inspired to paint again after taking multiple trips with my now husband to the bay area and Napa Valley. I fell in love with the beauty of San Francisco and Napa, and California in general. After getting reacquainted with painting (and learning how to use acrylics!), I launched Emma Sage Fine Art in 2017 with a goal of creating whimsical, fun, accessible art that brings joy into the world and a smile to the faces of those who see it. A year later, we moved to Santa Monica, California (sight unseen!) and I am in awe every day that I live in such a beautiful place.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Since I still have a full-time day job in marketing, and now have two rambunctious toddler boys, I don’t have a ton of time for painting. But I’m slowly finding the time again and hope to be able to paint full time one day.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an acrylic painter focusing on animals wearing clothes. I started with my “Party Animals” series, which depicts animals in their best party attire. I get inspiration for each piece from the animals themselves. I imagine a personality for each animal, which then inspires their outfit. My party animals don’t take life too seriously, they are just here for the party…literally!

Inspired by my two sons, I’m also working on a companion “Baby Party Animals” series. I’m in the process of painting the baby version of each Party Animal – I have 6 of the 10 finished so far.

My next series is inspired by my new home – it’s called “Animals in Hollywood”. My first painting in the series is a turtle called “Fear and Loathing in the Pacific”, and I have many more movie-inspired animal characters in the works.

I have also created a series of “Dogs in Glasses” paintings, and accept pet portrait commissions. That has been a fun side of my business, and I’ve been able to create some really special pieces for families looking to honor their pets.

I sell my original paintings, and also sell prints, greeting cards, magnets and stickers with my paintings on them. You can always find me at Ten Women Gallery, an artist cooperative, on Montana Ave in Santa Monica.

What does success mean to you?
Success to me is being able to do something you love and feel proud of your accomplishments. I think it’s also important to be happy, if you have everything you thought you wanted but you’re constantly stressed or you just aren’t having fun than I don’t think that’s much of a success.
