Today we’d like to introduce you to Elior Antwi.
Hi Elior, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Tel-Aviv, Israel. I started making beats at 16. Since I didn’t know any rappers I could work with, I started rapping and releasing my own music. That’s how I made a name for myself in the Tel Aviv rap scene and started producing for other rappers in Israel. Me and the rappers I’ve worked with had a big part in shaping the sound of Israeli hiphop since it wasn’t really a thing before we started doing it, At 26, almost two years ago, I moved to LA to pursue bigger opportunities since I felt I had hit a glass ceiling back home. I barely knew anyone here, and it was hard and lonely for me at first, but now, I work with all sorts of artists here in LA and collaborate with amazing producers and writers I have met along the way.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The hardest thing for me was to leave my life in Tel Aviv behind, I still miss all my friends, producers and rappers I worked with, leaving and starting anew was a necessary but hard decision that at times felt like a mistake but now its starting to feel like the best decision I’ve ever made
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a music producer and recording engineer. Back home, I’m known for my work with artists like Dudu Faruk, Michael Swissa, and Noroz, amongst others. I think my strong suite used to be hip-hop and R&B, but nowadays, I focus more on K-pop, R&B, and Pop but still work with some rappers in LA. I’m most proud of helping artists grow from the ground up into some of the biggest rappers in Israel’s history. I think what sets me apart is my ability to connect to an artist on a genuine level, my technical production skills, and fresh sounds.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I owe a lot to my producer friends out here who’ve helped me grow and adapt to the local music scene. Uv Killin Em, 10Fifty, Yuval Maayan, Jonathan Linav, and Will Steller showed me the ropes, gave me opportunities, and welcomed me into their sessions.
