Daily Inspiration: Meet Edward Hurtado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edward Hurtado.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started making music professionally during the pandemic back in 2020. I had released my first single “Now or Never” on all streaming platforms and a few weeks after that, my single got a slot on one of The Game’s mixtape series “Game Time” Vol 2. After releasing a few singles after that, I released my EP “I Am Edward Hurtado” featuring The Game and Fat Joe.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey as an independent artist, songwriter, and producer has definitely been challenging. My biggest obstacle as an artist is arguing with myself when it comes to collaborating with other artists to work on my music. I’m a hands-on type of person when it comes to creating my music. Sometimes I feel like I’m doing too much as far as not allowing anyone else to help me out when creating my music. I’ve never been the type to reach out and ask for help as far as music creativity goes but when the opportunity or help is offered to me then it’s a different story. I’m so big on not giving anyone that power to say “If it wasn’t for me you wouldn’t of made it this far”. That’s why I enjoy working alone 99% of the time when it comes to music.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an independent artist/songwriter/producer from Maywood, CA. I’m mostly known for my single “Now or Never”. I’m mostly proud of the fact that I was prepared to be in a position to pursue my music career independently. I guess what sets me apart for other rappers is that I’m willing to really invest into my music and I’m one of the very few independent artists who is in full control when it comes to the music and business side. I am the team.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My family matters the most to me because they are the foundation of my existence. They are the reason why I do what I do. In the Mexican culture family is everything and that’s something that gives me the drive to pursue the goals I wanna reach in life. They are the reason why I’m a family man.
