Daily Inspiration: Meet Ebony Loren

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Loren.

Ebony Loren

Hi Ebony, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Music was always a part of my life, sooner than I can even remember. I’m not sure what got me started, but I was singing as soon as I could speak, and I was teaching myself how to play piano and guitar by elementary and middle school. I was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and I grew up there until I was 18. I went to arts schools all my life as well. My K-8 school incorporated the arts into every student’s education. After that, I ended up going to a performing arts high school where I was a vocal major. I was in all the choirs, participated in musical theater, and was a part of our school’s vocal jazz group. I believe that’s where my interest in jazz came from. After high school, I moved to Chicago to study music in college. My college experience was a bit distorted because I went during Covid, but I still enjoyed my time there and loved living in Chicago. All the while, I began putting out my original music independently and continued sharing content across my social media. A lot of my listeners may have found me through the cover songs and singing videos I would post. After graduating from college, I moved to LA, where I have been for the last year and a half, and I’m absolutely loving it. I am completely pursuing my goals in music, and I’m exactly where my younger self hoped I would be. I continue to write my little songs and share them with the world in the hopes that some people might connect with it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I tend to have a more optimistic view on life as a whole, so I can’t say there’s much I can complain about when it comes to my journey with music. Of course, there have been a few challenges, but nothing that would ever stop me or make me want to do anything else with my life. I think a lot of artists nowadays can relate to the struggle of self-promotion and marketing. It can be challenging and mentally draining to try to keep up with the short attention spans these days. Sometimes it feels like you need to be a content creator in order for your music to be heard. But honestly, I just try to take the industry for what it is and try to adapt to the times as they keep changing. I try my best to keep things enjoyable along the way so I don’t ever lose motivation.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Before anything, I am a singer-songwriter. I am someone who loves to create and share stories through song in the hopes of connecting more with the listeners. I have lots of emotions, and my means of expression is to create music. I would describe my music as acoustic pop with R&B and Jazz influences, but I also don’t want to tie myself down to any particular genre because I would love to explore and try new styles. I think one thing that sets me apart is my love for language learning and my desire to incorporate that into my art. I already have two songs released in Spanish (my second language), and I hope to have songs out in Korean someday too (my third language). I plan on learning more than just these two languages in the future, and I would love to connect with more international listeners through multilingual music.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Social media has had an immense impact on the music industry, how music is consumed, and how music is marketed. Further advancements in technology will continue to have effects on the music industry that we can’t even imagine. Things like AI will probably lead to a revolution of some kind in the way that art is produced in general. I have no idea where that will lead, but I’ll be here to wait and see.
