Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Slay.
Hi Dr. Slay, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In 2013, I graduated from college and wanted to start a new life and take advantage of a new environment, I picked a state and ventured! I made it to Arizona, traveling from Los angles with just myself and my dogs, but I knew that there were many people ahead whom I would meet and create magic with. I have always done my own hair since I was in the 7th grade, prior to that I would style my baby dolls’ hair as a child. When I got to Arizona I quickly caught the eyes of many, with my long 40 inches and 5’9 tallness there was no way no one would not notice me. I soon started mixing and mingling out on the screen and would take on small clients from just referrals. I soon grew to where I needed a space outside of my home, I would first only charge $75 for an installation of a wig, but now that my skills have increased my installs are $200 and up. Your talent will always make way for you, and the better you get it does not hurt to add tax! I would use booking aps like StyleSeat and Booksy and partner with Mayveynne Hair to bring in new clients, but I was able to increase not only my sales and client by just creating my very own website. I now offer monthly membership and offer everything girl needs ranging from wigs to play toys, which separated me from the average stylist or hair company.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
When it comes to challenges, I feel I’m trying to stay ten steps ahead of the scammers. As an entrepreneur, you can take losses or gains daily, but these scammers are getting smarter and smarter. My challenge is shipping orders after payment has cleared and later own you find out they used someone else payment. I have now learned to build extra insurance into my products.
I don’t mind the challenges because we can sometimes grow faster from mistakes.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
When it comes to the specialties of Dr. Slay I’m known for my hand made glue less wigs as well as the quality of my hair. I have wigs that pretty much you can take right out of the package and put on your head without any glue or styling needed.
I not only offer the choice of many handmade glue-less wigs but I also sell top-tier-quality hair, glue, glue-less spray, vibrating flat irons and a variety of play toys to satisfy every girl’s fantasy.
What separates me from others is I’m willing to duplicate myself, I’m always looking for the next Dr. Slay! I want to inspire others to take the next step on their Journey as an self-made boss. I offer classes ranging from how to start a business to building self and Business credit!
I’m most proud of being able to make over 6 figures and remove myself from a heavy work environment, I no longer have to force myself to work for anyone. It is a choice!
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people do not know but I started from absolutely nothing when I made it to my current city, I knew no one, I had no one, Only the person in the mirror and I still made it happen!
