Daily Inspiration: Meet Dr. Kiernan “Kiki” Steiner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Kiernan “Kiki” Steiner.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After many years of studying classical voice and choral music education in the academic setting, I found myself disconnected to my creative voice–my soul’s unique frequency. I was questioning my purpose, my career, and tired of chasing the feeling of success & validation. It was once I began reconnecting to my culture & roots, listening to my body’s cues, creating without expectations, and tuning into my inner worlds when I realized I could embrace every day as a creative act.

This led me to develop a holistic vocal pedagogy and creativity coaching praxis to support artists in attuning to their soul’s unique frequency through vocal & creative care for artist identity development.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As a mother and the sole owner & operator of my business, I have navigated many iterations of my business over the last 4 years. At times I chose to work part-time teaching jobs which shifted my focus away from my business, but I never gave up on my vision for working full-time for myself. Now I am a full-time artist, singer/songwriter, and voice doula.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As The Voice Doula, I provide vocal & creative care coaching to artists who want to wield the power of their voices and develop their artist identity through a holistic creative care framework. Sessions with The Voice Doula can include traditional voice lessons, sound baths, guided somatic & vocal expression, or artist development coaching & consulting. The areas of knowledge that guide my work are vocal music education pedagogy, full spectrum birth doula education, and sound healing.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memories are singing with my mom and family in the car on the long roadtrips. These were some of the happiest memories because we were all together, seeing more of the world through our windows, and connecting through song.
