Today we’d like to introduce you to Donta’ Young.
Hi Donta’, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began singing as a young child. As I matured in age, I began to understand writing and was inclined to play instruments, which led to creating music. I began recording at the age of 14, where I wrote and produced my own music. For a period of time, I stopped writing and producing to explore other areas of my life. As my experiences and opportunities in life increased, so did my outlook on life and my writing skills. In 2020, I decided that I had a more clear reason for writing and producing, as well as a greater understanding of what my music can do for the world. I began to use what I know as a therapist, in addition to my life experiences, to create a dialect of R&B and Pop music that can positively affect the listeners. I currently have two singles that have been released this current year. The first single entitled “Who Am I” is a call for understanding purpose and identity. The second single entitled “With You” brings back the intimacy in music that most can relate to. At this point in my career, I feel that I can offer the world the best of me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not always been smooth due to the changes in the music industry. Whereas music was previously based on artistry and an industry that was housed in major record companies, we are in an era where the internet is king. This causes me to have to be very creative to create an audience of listeners. It is also harder to make money in the industry.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a producer, songwriter, and artist who has the ability to articulate life experiences and desires through music. I have the capability of expressing what others feel but cannot articulate themselves. I also bring a desired element of R&B as we knew it, using a portion of today’s sounds and language. While it is something familiar, it is also something never heard before. I am most proud of the feedback of listeners who believe that my music can revolutionize R&B music.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe that everything happens for a purpose. I also believe that we create our own realities. Therefore, I do not believe that luck is an element in what I do. I just believe in working hard.
