Daily Inspiration: Meet Dion Ingram Jr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dion Ingram Jr.

Hi Dion, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
A Touch of Dionfidence was established in the year 2020. We all know during that time, people were either unemployed, searching for jobs, or starting their own business. I was laid off from my job and wanted to work, but wanted to do something that brought out my creative side and allowed me to work with people. My father introduced me to an amazing lady, Chantell Renee, who I now call my mentor and friend. She is a balloon artist and event planner herself, and took me under her wing and showed me a whole new world. From learning how to create balloon garlands to dealing with clients to organizing decor that needed to be set for an event, Chantell taught me all that she knows! After working alongside her for some time, she inspired me to start my own business. With the help of my father and Chantell, I owned my first business and became an official LLC, and the rest is history!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Although I absolutely love what I do, there have been some challenges! I never saw myself ever owning a business and trying to find my flow and how I want my business to run has been tricky at times. I am blessed to have an amazing family and group of friends that help support my business. Dealing with clients and the marketing for my business can be tough at times on my own, so it’s nice to have a group of people who continue to push me and help out as much as they can. I’ve also found it a struggle to take on everything by myself and learning to continue to reach out when I need some help. The physical work I can handle! It’s trying to mentally be there for my business while still trying to handle life, that can be tricky at times. Sometimes I want to just be over it, but I continue to remind myself to not give up and that not all success comes easy! It may be tough at times, but it will all be worth it!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?

I want you to show up and be more than glad that you booked A Touch of Dionfidence for your special moment!

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I strongly believe in risk taking! Not just for running my business but in general. When it comes to running my business, I’ve honestly lost count of the amount of times I’ve taken a risk. I remember giving myself a business loan using my personal money and not knowing if I’d make that money back, but sure enough I did! There have also been times where I’ve taken risks especially when it comes to doing balloon decor. Trying to hang a balloon garland off of a roof or being inches away from falling into a pool of water, trying to adjust the decor. I do my best to take many safety precautions, but sometimes a risk must be taken. A major risk that I believe many business owners take, is with their time! When I first started off, I was constantly thinking, “is this worth my time?” Having to sometimes miss spending time with family and friends or when I want to rest having to respond back to clients, can be tough. I’m a huge advocate on having my “me-time” and make it a priority to give myself a break to enjoy life and not always be in work mode. There are times though where I am willing to risk my time, energy and sometimes money, in order to make my business thrive because I’m so passionate about it. It’s more than just a business to me, it’s my way of bringing my creativity into this world and creating memories and connections with people all over. After taking certain risks and finishing an event, it becomes all worth it! So take that risk because with risk truly comes reward!
