Daily Inspiration: Meet Diamond Allen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diamond Allen.

Hi Diamond, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Originally from Grand Rapids Michigan, I’ve been blessed to call Los Angeles my home for the last 7 years! I was brought here while completing my late grandmother’s 60item bucket list. That was an experience of a lifetime but didn’t give me much stability in life, I decided to join the Navy! After leaving the U.S. Navy, I decided it was time to seriously focus on my future! I obtained my degree in theatre and thought it was time to put it to use. I just didn’t know where to begin! It wasn’t until Covid it that I was really able to dig deep in myself and come up with a good game plan. Things soared for me after that! I was able to start putting my ideas into action! I made my first short documentary title 59 1/2 which brings you on the journey with me to complete my grandmother’s bucket list. It did great! That led me to writing my first two films which I was blessed enough to cast the most amazing talents and crew for! I also started a podcast (I mean who didn’t) called the Broqué actors podcast where I interview actors who are already in the business to help us up-and-coming actors get some advice on our paths into this wild business!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been long and trying! Most of give up everything to follow this dream we are trying to fulfill and truth be told a lot of us have to let it go because life gets in the way. I’ve been extremely fortunate to have support and the powers that be on my side that have allowed me to continue fighting the fight. I had no idea of the hardships that follow when you choose to create your own projects and art. It’s astonishing the amount of time and effort and money that goes into even the lowest level of creators’ work! Let me be the first to tell you it is not for the faint of heart. I cried many nights thinking of the sacrifices and lack of family in town to help me through those hard times. I’ve learned though that the finished product is always worth those sleepless nights!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m proud to now call myself a quadruple threat in the acting world! I have written, directed, produced, and starred in my own film that is currently in post-production! The title of the film is “To all the moms I’ve loved before” it’s a passion project that began as an inside joke from people who knew me about my ability to collect “mother figures”. Speaking about the ups and downs of mother-daughter relationships is somewhat taboo and I wanted to shed light on the idea that as people regardless of who the person is to you, sometimes we just want to try something new and that’s nothing to be ashamed of, but the grass is not always greener on the other side! This film inspired me to see what else I could do and pushed me outside of the limitations I self for myself unknowingly! I am far more able than I gave myself credit! It sparked a newfound reality that we are capable if we just get out of our own way!

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think my empathy is most important! I want everyone to win! I will put as much into my fellow artist as I put into myself and that a WHOLE lot! I don’t believe in pulling someone else down to get ahead! One of my biggest goals is to make space for the artists who have come before me, who I’ve looked up to and studied that are being or have been pushed out of the limelight. There is no expiration on talent! I want to denounce the idea of someone aging out of their career! There is still a need and a place for but new and seasoned artists to share their art together!
