Today we’d like to introduce you to Dean Rosenzweig.
Hi Dean, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Born in Philadelphia raised around music, art and a lot of brothers and sisters they were a big influence on me then and now… Took to music and playing in bands pretty early at age 13. Started painting much later. I started working in live music/concerts in audio when I was around 16 and am still at it.
The painting led to an art grant in Berlin, Germany in 2005. I went for six months and stayed for 13 years. I lived between Berlin and Amsterdam and was submerged into the art/music scene there.
While in Berlin, I was lucky enough to play in a band (IAMX) and tour the world living my childhood dream. Also lucky in the art world and was able to show my art all over Europe.
Went on to being a tour manager and worked for some great bands and been touring the world since.
I rode out covid between Amsterdam, Philadelphia and LA. Finally settling in LA after the music business opened back up and am giving my art a shot back over here in between touring.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Like most artists and humans, there have been a lot of bumps and bruises along the way. Making it as an artist or musician is rarely a smooth road but I’ve always tried to make the best of a bad situation and turn it into something positive. I could tell you about all the ups and downs, sex, drugs and rock n roll but no one wants to hear about that boring stuff…
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I paint… I produce music and I tour manage bands… I’d have to say tour managing might be my specialty… I’m lucky enough to take a lot of very cool bands/humans (Crystal Castles, Still Woozy, Cory Henry, Dove Cameron) across the globe and do lots of cool sh!t. But when I am not touring, I mostly paint.
I spent 13 years in Berlin and Amsterdam before the pandemic hit. I like to think I crafted my skill out there and started using the streets of Berlin as inspiration. Everyone paints in the streets there, I started noticing all the layers of different artists on the walls everywhere. I started using those layers in my paintings, it’s a pretty cool effect and I think it sets me apart from other artists…
At the moment I’d have to say I’m pretty proud of my new E.P. I just put out called “Anesthesia” by “ODXT”. https://open.spotify.com/album/6WAyb6KLTnbTvOt1XqsfPs
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Painting makes me the happiest. If I have a brush in my hand… it’s a good day. And kitty cats… they make me really happy… especially if they have pizza for me.
