Today we’d like to introduce you to Darius Deon.
Hi Darius, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a born and raised Grand Prairie Texas native. I grew up in a single-parent home and had to fight for everything that I have. I was a kid that actually loved school and enjoyed going and being involved in everything. Straight A’s, 3.8 GPA, student council, senior class, you name it. Although all of those things were great, I was abused and molested when I was very young. It allowed my mind to all over the place when it came to love, anger, or any emotions. I was broken at a young age and didn’t really know how to express myself. I was in foster care for a while and ended up back with my family. I faced bipolar issues and had to truly overcome so many childhood trauma experiences. My family just had so many generational problems, but even through all of that, I chose to be different. I chose to not settle for the life that I was given. I was the first to attend college at Oklahoma City University and obtain my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting. Throughout that, I lead at Life Church in Oklahoma as a lead worship leader, and even before that, I was a choir director and intern at Village United Methodist Church.
Through that time, it came out that my father who was a pastor and gospel singer, molested and raped girls in the church, including my own mother. All of these things really tried to break me, but as I kept God first my mind and my soul is still intact. I love hard and lead with love. I took that trauma and negativity and used it for ammo to do good and to be a light and beacon of hope. I moved to NYC and had $200 left afterwards but I trusted God to bring me through and sit me in places that I knew my talent would get me in. I have been on three tours since I’ve moved August 16, 2021. I just finished an 8-month national tour playing the lead role D’artagnan in The Three Musketeers and playing Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet. Go has allowed me to experience the lowest of lows but the highest of highs… and I’m not done yet. THE BEST IS YET TO COME. I have been healed, restored, and even been in therapy. Through my life growing up in a church family that was broken, I chose to be whole. My choice to do things differently and to truly DREAM and go after them allowed me to be where I am today.
Whatever happens in our life, we don’t have to let those things define us. I am who God says I am and who he’s called me to be. I strive to be a beacon of hope and light to the world full of darkness. I just pray that God will bless me to reach even more people and how that if I can do it, and overcome, then so can they. All things are possible when we believe. My life is a living testimony of faith and endurance. I hold the scripture Ephesians 3:20 and Romans 8:31 very close to my heart. God has kept me and sustained me, and I can’t wait to see all that he has next for me. This was only the beginning of the beautiful life that has already been ordained and destined for me to Live. I now have my own podcast called “Talks with Darius Deon” I have a 69 thousand following on TikTok and 7000 on Instagram. I count all these things as blessings and really shows that a miracle was done through me. No matter the pain I went through, I’ve experienced so much joy because of God. I truly believe the best is yet to come and I’m excited for people to witness it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Money has always been an issue growing up. Being in a single-parent home where sometimes we just weren’t able to have access to certain things kids around us had. My Father wasn’t really in the picture, so I had to learn how to be a man and to take care of myself without him showing me. All of the trauma and pain that was passed down hindered me for so long until I got the courage and strength to break those cycles. Sex, Money, drugs were not going to be the things that stopped me, and I made sure of that.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a singer, model, actor, podcaster, and part-time psalmist/evangelist for God. I would consider myself a jack of many trades. I have a chameleon mindset and skillset. I am mostly known for me being a professional singer and actor. My social media following is based on my encouragement and my light that I bring into anyone’s life that I come across. Music is my passion, and it’s the thing that brings the most joy to my soul. I love to worship in church because it’s where I feel the most at home. My voice soars like no other.
I am most proud that through anything I do, people see the God through me. They see how much passion and heart I put into every single thing that I do. I strive to do everything in excellence, and I believe my work and work ethic back me up 100%.
What sets me apart is that I know that my purpose is bigger than me, and I don’t do this to bring glory to myself. I want to be able to give back and show people that dreams and goals that they have are possible! That as long as they believe, they can achieve. Hard times will come but they have to dig deep, have courage, be brave, and just do it.
Through my life and everything I do, leading with love is the most vital thing that allows me to have an impact on anyone that I meet, and I take pride in that.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Waking up with breath in my lunges. Knowing and seeing my family healthy, happy and live. Getting to do what I love and walking in my purpose without anything holding me back. When I see people’s lives change because I choose to walk in destiny is truly the ultimate success. At the root of everything is God, and because I have him success has no choice but to follow and find me.
