Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Moran

Hi Dan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Thanks for speaking with me! First and foremost, I’m a husband and father. I’m also a third-generation jeweler, a diamond expert, and the founder of Concierge Diamonds, a Los Angeles based custom fine jewelry brand. We’re by-appointment-only from our DTLA offices, and we also work remotely with clients all over the world, fashioning bespoke heirloom quality necklaces, earrings, and bracelets, all thoughtfully priced to provide unmatched value. Where we really shine though, so to speak, is in custom-made diamond engagement rings for soon-to-be-wed couples. Creating my clients’ dream jewelry isn’t my only passion though, I also have a deep love for aviation, and I pilot my own small plane—a Piper PA-46 JetPROP. Flying not only helps me find my peace, but it also gives me an edge in business, as it allows me to provide a special and unique customer service experience to my clients.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Launching and leading this company has been a joy, but of course it hasn’t been easy. It took decades of experience in the diamond industry which involved more than my share of trials and tribulations. I began my career in import and wholesale, bringing large diamonds in from overseas and selling to dealers and retailers throughout the USA. As I gained experience, I realized that I personally enjoy working directly with consumers more, and being a part of their lives’ milestone moments. So, I founded Concierge Diamonds in 2012 to pursue that goal, and it has been immensely rewarding. Of course, growing a capital intensive business in a highly competitive industry has not been without its sleepless nights, stressful days, and uncertain times, but we’ve grown from a business literally started in my kitchen to a team of ten dedicated experts working together to create the finest pieces possible.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In business, I have plans to continue growing Concierge Diamonds. We’re going to keep providing our clients the best possible concierge services and the highest levels of craftsmanship for the best value possible. We’re expanding our team with great new people, adding new ‘ready to wear’ pieces to our website, and traveling across the country to meet with clients face to face.

As far as my personal life, as I continue to progress in flying, I’d like to expand my pilot qualifications and get my commercial license, as well as ratings for both gliders and seaplanes. I think this will open the door to a lot of great new experiences, and I relish the opportunity to push myself and expand my knowledge of aviation.

What makes you happy?
My primary source of happiness has always been my family. I spend a lot of time with my wife, our two sons, and our goofy dog. Whether taking spontaneous trips (we just got back from the Grand Canyon!), cooking meals together, or just watching TV and eating snacks, they are a source of peace and strength for me.

I also find my work tremendously rewarding. I get to be a part of a huge moment in couples’ lives, and that’s very gratifying. I often know when someone is going to propose before his own mother! It’s a huge trust that my clients put in me, and it means a lot.

My flying is also a massive source of joy for me. When I’m at the controls, the world just fades away beneath me, and all the noise in my mind goes quiet. The ability to be totally present and focused on the task at hand is an important source of balance for me. It’s better than therapy!

In fact, we beat the prices of the major national jewelry retail brands, and far surpass the value offered by high end designers. I believe that luxury should be accessible to everyone, especially when it comes to engagement rings.
