Today we’d like to introduce you to Cinima.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I always had a fascination with unique instruments and electronic music. As well as imagery and visual aesthetics that could either create a mood or tell a story about music. It’s been a long road of combining all those elements and creating original electronic music with a unique visual and auditory approach in a cohesive manner and attempting to combine live musicianship and improvisation with electronic genres.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been plenty of struggles, but that’s part of attempting to create anything unique. It comes with both technological challenges, as well as personal struggles in the road to try to see your vision through. For me personally, the struggles are often what keeps it interesting and they consume me until I’ve made a breakthrough. I think as artists and musicians, we all struggle. Yet, that’s secondary if we consider it our calling. For me, as an artist, the struggles never go away. I just get used to the rollercoaster ride.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a visual music artist. The heart of what I do is still writing music and that’s what matters to me most. What I add to that music is the unique instruments I play being the delivery method of that music. Chapman Stick, a 12-string tapping instrument. As well as the Laser Harp. These components are all the mixed with live visuals to create a multimedia experience. They’re also great tools for performing electronic music live. It has been a long long time in the making and learning a few different crafts to now be able to deliver live multimedia performances with minimal tech and backline. I think I’m most proud of the fact that I was able to see my vision through and to finally perform in the way I’ve always wanted to.
How do you define success?
Success is incremental accomplishments and consistency in both hard work, and the confidence to know one’s vision can be obtained. Success has a very personal definition and we’re often judged by our financial success or other factors like a massive social media presence. For me, success is still finding joy in creating.
