Daily Inspiration: Meet Charlene Nelson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlene Nelson.

Hi Charlene , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Charlene and I’ve had a passion for reading ever since I can remember. I remember being 15 years old living with my grandmother reading Stephen King’s “The Stand” this book is about 800 pages. From this my passion grew for reading and I was introduced to Stephen King which became a stepping stone for my love of horror books. I enjoy reading as it’s a great escape from being an adult. I do love reading on paperbacks but within the past 5 years I mainly read on my kindle. It’s a convenient way to travel with a lot of books. Reading has allowed me to connect with people from across the world. I’ve decided to become serious about reading. I created a bookstagram account via Instagram. My mom helped me with the name and I’ve been introduced to different readers and authors.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was difficult to find time to read as work can be very time consuming. I’ve now been fortune to work for a company that encourages a work/ life balance which allows me more time to read. Also, since my genre for reading has changed and I mainly read horror and extreme horror it was difficult finding people that has the same reading interest as me. Through my Bookstagram account I have been able to find my reading tribe. The challenge I find with my Bookstagram is many authors reach out to me requesting to read and review their ARC’s (advance reader copy) books. This a pre publication version of what the author will release. These books usually come with a deadline to read and review. The constant challenge is usually reading ARC’s and books I am personally interested in. I’m in several book clubs so it can be overwhelming at times. I’m truly grateful for the ARC’s as they help with exposing authors to a different audience.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I currently work in the manage healthcare industry. I am a Business Analyst, I identify issues and strategically work to improves system and implementation of streamline processes. My current role can be mentally taxing. I’m blessed to have this current position.

Because of this trait I tend to be able to relate to others challenges and struggles they may have. Because of this I’m often praised for being compassionate and kinds.
