Daily Inspiration: Meet Celio Bordin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Celio Bordin.

Hi Celio, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m an Italian artist who immigrated to the USA 9 years ago with the goal of exploring new horizons in my art. This time period has seen exponential advancements in the use of technology to aide in the creation of art. I am amazed at the ingenuity and the bonanza of accessibility artificial intelligence and digital tools has offered artists of all generations. My strengths lie in creating paintings and drawings with the physical tools of fountain pen, pencil, and paintbrush on paper, canvas and matte board. But I am enjoying pursuing new ways to adapt my drawing and paintings so their stories and details can be explored in ways that only technology can provide. In short, I’m striving to maintain my creative integrity by using technology without letting it dominate.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think my struggles are not unique. They are the struggles of every artist without the capital to consistently support the creation of their art or to market it effectively to domestic and global audiences. There are numerous potential Van Goghs whose talent is unseen because they lack the resources to promote themselves effectively.

Still, I believe that creating is a necessity for an artist. For me, it’s not a job, but a pleasurable mission for myself . When my collectors tell me that my artworks have a unique energy that they love, and that they discover new things each day when they look at them, it makes all the challenges worth it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My artistic interests are varied. I create one of a kind, site specific drawings and paintings that channel the unique history and energy of a place and its people. Sometimes its a modern exploration with stories of the lives and experiences of the people present in the room with me; other times it’s a historical narrative of civilizations and sagas long past. These personalities and stories create a labyrinth of intricate imagery and symbolism where small flora, fauna, architecture, and a myriad of human faces weave together to create a larger face, creature, or structure. To create these striking visuals I use fountain pens and fountain pen ink on the mediums of canvas, paper, and matte board. I have paired my drawings with fashion brands to create original designs for formal dress ensembles. I also create large interactive installations using recycled metal and other materials. I began my career pioneering framed, three dimensional artworks using plastic, wood, and metal.

I think my creative honesty sets me apart. I have completed several artworks live in front of an audience where they watch the creation of the drawing from start to finish. It’s a very powerful and vulnerable position to be in, to open myself up to the energy of a place and draw what I honestly perceive no matter the outcome.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Perseverance.
