Daily Inspiration: Meet Bridget Condon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridget Condon.

Hi Bridget, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up in Boston I was a huge sports fan. From a young age, I was thrown into playing all kinds of sports and rooting for the Boston sports teams. In 2004 my parents took us to Game 4 of the ALCS between the Yankees and Red Sox. The Sox were down 3 games to none and almost lost game 4. They ended up winning, and went on to win the World Series, and I’ll never forget walking through the streets of Boston high-fiving people and sharing the joy of what had just happened. That’s when I realized sports is the one thing that brings people of all kinds together. I was an athlete in high school and wanted to continue in the sports world in college so I joined the student broadcast for our football and basketball games at JMU. That experience helped me land my first on-air job as a sports reporter and anchor in Charlottesville, VA where I covered UVA sports. From there I went to Raleigh, NC and had my first experience covering pro sports with the Carolina Hurricanes and Carolina Panthers. I also was in the heart of college basketball, covering monumental moments like both Roy Williams and Coach K retiring. My experience in NC led me to a job at NFL Network. I’m entering my fourth season with NFL Network and love every minute of getting to cover one of the best sports in the world. I am grateful for the opportunity to tell the stories surrounding the NFL.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s not a journey if there aren’t roadblocks, right? It hasn’t always been smooth but it’s been unique to me and that’s what I love. In this industry, no two paths are the same and that’s what I always remind myself. It’s easy to compare your journey to those around me but that’s not fair to yourself. I’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way but I’ve also grown and I’m proud of who I am becoming. I often remind myself it’s not about who can get there first, it’s about who can enjoy it every step of the way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a reporter and host for NFL Network. I work both in the studio and out in the field, at practices and games. I present daily news to our viewers on TV as well as social media. This can be anything from injury updates to breaking news. As a reporter, I attend practices, interview players and coaches and attend games. I participate in our pregame show from the field before games and after games interview players as they are coming off the field.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Be true to yourself. There are a lot of people who want to be reporters but often times people don’t know why they want to do it. It will be easier if you identify why it is you want to get into this profession and always remember that when things get tough, you’re working on weekends or away from your family during the holidays. It’s important to be uniquely you and don’t try to be someone you think this industry wants you to be. Everyone brings something special and it’s important to remember your value is your authenticity. I wish I knew when I started out how everyone is on their own journey. Try not to compare yourself to the person next to you because it will only hinder your growth. There can be more than one seat at the table and if those seats are already occupied, make another.
