Daily Inspiration: Meet Brea Fournier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brea Fournier.

Brea Fournier

Hi Brea, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been singing and making up songs for as long as I can remember! I began my musical journey in classical voice lessons at 8 years old before performing in musicals and eventually playing guitar and writing my own songs. After attending high school in Salt Lake City, I moved to New York for college at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. It was then that I formed my band, Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Is it ever a smooth road? I wish! I think a lot of artistic industries have changed drastically post-pandemic, and the music industry is no exception. My band just released our debut album, “Manic Pixie Dream Girl!” which I am so immensely proud of, but trying to get a producer on board with seventeen tracks was no small feat in a time where the streaming economy is dominated by singles. Barb Morrison turned out to be the perfect producer for the job, and I truly believe we created something special together.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a rock artist, songwriter, and bandleader, music is everything to me. Within the rock world, though, what sets Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet apart is our willingness to break the boundaries of genre and even artistic medium. Our album “Manic Pixie Dream Girl!” is really a multimedia project in three parts, and while the album is the part I, part II is a theatre-style cabaret show (which we will be debuting at City Winery in NYC on March 11th!) and part III is a feature-length musical film.

I am really proud of my team’s courage to continue our pursuit of authenticity within our art in a time of increasing monotony, and I can’t wait to see where that takes us.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
My music is feminist in nature, so while writing this album I was reading feminist texts like “The Second Sex” by Simone de Beauvoir and “Women, Race, and Class” by Angela Davis.

Additionally, as an independent artist and bandleader that handles a lot of our graphic design, I am a big fan of Canva Pro for promotional materials.
