Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Deem.
Hi Brandon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been writing since I was 11 years old. It started off as small stuff like love letters to my crushes. As I got older it became poetry contests and songs that I could never finish. Writing was always something I could turn to when it felt like the rest of the world pushed me away at times. I continued to write years later whenever I felt something needed to be put on paper.
So now here we are and I’ve written “When Our Hearts Collide” an Amazon Best Selling poetry book selling over 4,000 copies in seven months to people in 12 different countries. I have received hundreds of Emails and Messages from people all around the world reaching out expressing how much my book has helped them to find the words for the feelings they were feeling. I wrote this book for that exact reason because sometimes we as humans can’t seem to put our feelings into words and that can be scary. I wanted to help give people a safe place for them to heal, grow, love and feel everything they need to. “When Our Hearts Collide” is my hurt from my breakups that left me broken, it’s my endless bad decisions that leave me lonely, it’s my anxiety that keeps me up at night, It is the love that I have so much of to give, this book is my soul spilled onto the pages for you to read. This is my absolute everything and I am glad it found its way to the people who needed it most.
My second poetry book “I Hope This Finds You” drops Monday June 20th at 6PM CST. “I Hope This Finds You” is an empowering poetry book that explores the themes of sadness, healing, love, heartbreak, letting go, loving yourself, and rising again from the pain of your past. The book serves as a beautiful reminder that no matter how lost you feel, you can always find your way back to yourself. “I Hope This Finds You” is a journey in which you will find the strength to transform your life and realize that the power is in your hands.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Besides the normal writer’s block, believe it or not, as a poet or better yet, as a human I found myself struggling to be vulnerable in sharing my feelings outside of writing. It’s a scary thing sharing those parts of yourself that you keep tucked away and don’t necessarily broadcast. It takes bravery to open up to people about pain, mental health, heartbreak, love, and more. At first, I didn’t plan to make my book available to anyone and everyone. I wrote it because I wanted a select few to have their hands on this book but as I got more and more into the book I realized that there are so many people out there who struggle with the same things as I do or even worse than mine. I thought hard about how much this book can help others and I wanted that so much more than I wanted fame or fortune. I just wanted to heal all the broken hearts in the world so I made it accessible to everyone.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I currently am an Author, Photographer, Previous Model, and business owner of ChooseU which I started about 3 years ago. ChooseU is more than a website to buy clothing, poetry books, custom-made vintage rings, or custom-made furniture. ChooseU is a platform for me to be creative and to help give back to the world. For every product that is sold on ChooseU.org the proceeds get donated to a different nonprofit organization around the world. I have donated to organizations such as Friends of the Earth, Water-aid, Trevor Project, 4OCean and more. As a child, I had one goal and that was to change the world and now as an adult, I feel as though I am doing just that, one person at a time. It’s hard for me to praise myself and say I am most proud of one thing because I always feel there is more work to be done, more hands to help, and more love to share in this hectic world.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Seeing other people genuinely happy makes me the happiest.
