Today we’d like to introduce you to Bossy CandyBarz.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started rapping at the age of 12 being inspired by artists like lil’ Kim & Trina but I didn’t really get into it seriously until around the age of 16; being the only gay male growing up around the majority hetero males that rapped I really wanted to prove I can do it too if not better!
Soon after I got super inspired by the queen of rap Nicki Minaj who was more relatable to me than past inspirations both musically & style-wise because she had fun in her music & I’ve always been a fan of “barbie” (the doll) & that put the icing on the cake. I then dove deep into music building my own personality & style & started networking via social media becoming genuine friends with other LGBT rappers like Bry’nt & Doug Thee Savage & social influencers & reality starts like Lonnie Bee Dream Doll (Rapper Love & Hip Hop & Bad Girls Club) The Clermont Twins (models & bad girls club) & Loren “Lo London” Jordan Jelaminah & Razor Behavior (bad girls club & baddies south/west) Da’vonne Rogers (big brother/ the challenge). I also went viral for my raunchy music video “Oh My Goodness” that gained me notoriety on the internet. Though I’m not where I want to be I’m still making music trying to get there I dropped my 1st album “Hard Candy” on platforms in 2020 during the pandemic & I’m so excited to drop my project the “Toon Up” February 14, 2023!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s not been a smooth road by far as an LGBT artist. I feel constantly overlooked or don’t receive the same support as I would if I were heterosexual. Another obstacle would be club promoters not wanting to pay for performances or walk-throughs because they don’t feel I’m on the level of people they see on tv which is fine but for me, it’s not a lot of money comes out of my pocket to get to these shows as well as transportation & hair/makeup & this rap stuff is my current only job I’m fully invested in that.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m most known for my musical collaborations with other popular LGBT artists going viral in 2015 for a raunchy music video & partying with social media influencers & reality stars from bad girls club baddies south/west the challenge big brother & love & hip hop.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think it’s really important to stay consistent as you can even if it’s slow just stay on your own pace & don’t rush the process.
