Today we’d like to introduce you to Bea Ramos.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I know it may be a cliché, but I’ve always wanted to be an actress. I would always play role games with my friends, recreating Disney movies. When I went to watch Harry Potter at a friend’s birthday when I was 11, I thought ‘I want to do that!’ Not magic but acting. I was fully aware that I wanted to be able to tell stories, to engage with the audience. When I turned 16-17, I was brave enough to say it out loud and enrolled in a small acting school in Vitoria, a small town in the north of Spain. A couple of years later, I finally moved to Madrid, even if I knew it wasn’t my final destination.
I always felt like I belonged to the international market, even if I didn’t know how to make it work. It took me longer than expected to figure it out, but after years of getting small gigs in Spain, I realized there was something missing, so I thought: “What should I do to get where I want to be?”. And that was it. I trained in different schools like Crash Acting in LA or RADA in London so I could get more into the international industry, networking and so I could become more confident in my own skin while acting in another language.
Thanks to Covid now we actors who are based in non-major markets are able to reach for opportunities that were not even thinkable for us a few years back. I personally have done auditions for well-known TV and commercial projects, which are more frequent lately.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all! Not coming from a family of artists, not knowing to see the small step right in front of me while feeling anxious for the entire staircase made me self-conscious and second-guess everything that I did. It took me a lot of therapy and re-engaging with the art to realize it’s all about the process and the passion.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Spanish-bilingual actor. I love this job more than anything I could think of. It has provided me with such beautiful things that I can never be thankful enough. I quit acting for a couple of years for some personal issues but that made me come back stronger and more determined than ever. I’m not taking a step back. I do work hard, and I don’t believe in shortcuts.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
When you are an artist, you need to make certain decisions that are not necessarily easy but are necessary nonetheless for your own art.
