Today we’d like to introduce you to Bailey Curbow.
Hi Bailey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Originally from Columbus Ohio, I dropped out of photography school at 20 and moved to Denver for a photo internship. I spent three and a half years there doing photography then transitioning into modeling. In 2018 I visited LA and a month later I was living out here! The city made me feel alive and want to chase my dreams of being a full time creative. I worked in restaurants out here for the first four years while doing a lot of trade for print shoots to build my portfolio. Just over three years ago I quit my service industry job to pursue modeling and acting full time. I have had the opportunity to act and model in some really amazing projects and even made my own short film, Fame Juice.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t know if smooth road is the right term haha.. This industry is very unpredictable and its been quite the up and down journey, but I love (almost) every minute of it. My first background job I did was back in 2020, covid era. I worked on a Lifetime movie as a server and they upgraded me and gave me lines.. So I definitely started off on a high but realized quickly how rare this is. Six months into doing this full time, I booked a huge photo double role for a major network show and that allowed me to join SAG. I have been so lucky to work on really cool projects like The Joker 2, which is one of my favorite shoots to date- So I take all of the downs of the industry as lessons and reminders that nothing stays perfect all of the time; but if you truly believe in your craft and have the will to keep going amongst the madness, something beautiful will come out of it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a full time, freelance model and actress. I would say my hair is my most unique attribute and I have been very blessed to do some amazing hair modeling campaigns over the last two years. I am still actively trying to advance in my modeling career and have dreams of working for companies like Vogue and Nike- just a matter of time!
As far as my acting career, I found myself in a creative funk about two years ago and decided to write my first short film, which I self produced, starred in, co-directed and so much more. I hired a crew of fourteen people and shot it in two days. It has won over ten awards in various film festivals and while it came with so many challenges, it taught me a lot about the industry and myself and I can’t wait to make another!
How do you think about luck?
I like to think of “luck” in the industry as right place right time situations. There has been so many times I’m like wow, I am so lucky this happened to me but when I think back I’m like ok, the universe works in such mysterious ways and it really is just a matter of right place right time.
For example, summer of 2023 I was doing a lot of background work as a non union actor, trying so hard to get a union voucher. I would ask on every single set, make friends with the PA’s, ask everyone their advice and in the end my road to joining SAG was truly a ‘right place right time’ situation. I worked on Hulu’s Welcome to Chippendales ten days that summer, so obviously I knew all of the PA’s, they really tried to get me some vouchers but it just wasn’t happening.. On my last day of background work for the show, I was on set when a Photo Double role for the lead actress was posted. I emailed the casting director, applied on instagram and on casting networks, then got up to use the restroom. While I was standing outside I was approached by one of the AD’s and she asked my name and started asking all of these questions about my stand in and double experience. She told me she thought I was Juliette (Lewis) from the back and offered me the photo double role (that I just applied for) on the spot. I met every department head and finally, the director, who then offered me the job on the spot, I got to do five scenes as her, including my first camera make out scene, got my own trailer, personal assistant and got a Taft Hartley.. I joined SAG right after. I even got to photo double for their promo posters. I think stories like this made me realize things happen on their own timelines and you have to believe it can happen while remaining realistic but optimistic.
