Daily Inspiration: Meet Autumn Davida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Autumn Davida

Hi Autumn , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up on a ranch, where my days were spent surrounded by my parents, our horses, dogs, and cats. The rhythm of life on the ranch—the early mornings, the wide-open spaces, and the quiet beauty of nature—shaped the person I am today. With nothing man-made in sight for miles, I developed a deep, lasting love for the world around me. From those moments of stillness, I learned to appreciate the simple joys of life. I find peace in worship, comfort in watching sunsets paint the sky with color, and fulfillment in being close to my family.

My photography journey began in high school when I took a black-and-white film class. Something was captivating about the process of capturing moments through a 35mm camera—each frame felt like a chance to freeze time, to hold onto something fleeting. What started as a simple curiosity quickly evolved into a full-blown passion. I began to experiment with both film and digital photography, learning the ins and outs of lighting, composition, and how to tell a story through an image. Portrait and landscape photography truly deepened my connection with the medium.

Portrait photography, for me, is about more than just taking pictures of people. It’s about connecting with someone on a deeper level, about seeing them in their most authentic and unique form. Each person tells a story, and through my lens, I aim to capture that essence—the little details, the subtle expressions, the emotions that make them who they are. There’s something incredibly powerful about capturing a moment of vulnerability or joy, and I love the challenge of trying to reveal a person’s true self in a single image.

On the other hand, landscape photography allows me to pause, step back, and truly savor the breathtaking beauty of the world God has created. There is a quiet, awe-inspiring majesty in nature that never fails to move me—whether it’s a mountain range, a forest at dawn, or the wide-open sky above. Landscape photography allows me to capture and share that sense of wonder with others, inviting them to experience the same awe and appreciation for God’s handiwork that I feel in those moments.

What began as a simple hobby has slowly blossomed into something much deeper—an outlet for creative expression, a way to connect with the world, and a method of sharing my perspective. Photography has become more than just a pastime; it’s a way for me to tell meaningful stories, whether about the people I’ve met or the landscapes I’ve encountered. Through my lens, I aim to capture fleeting moments, preserve memories, and offer others a glimpse into the beauty I see around me.

Ultimately, photography has become a way for me to express my heart—my gratitude for the world, my love for the people in it, and my awe of the Creator who designed it all. It is a language through which I can speak, a way to connect with others, and a way to offer something meaningful. I hope that, through my photographs, others can see and feel the beauty I’ve come to cherish and perhaps find their sense of wonder and gratitude in the process.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing up, I was immersed in the world of cameras. My dad is a videographer and can capture moments and bring stories to life through film. I was lucky enough to witness his creative process up close—watching how a different frames could convey emotion. From a young age, I felt a special connection to that power. I was fascinated by how he could shape a narrative using nothing but the lens of a camera and his editing skills. I remember being in awe as I watched him work, and even as a child, I knew that the camera was more than just a tool; it was a way to preserve memories, tell stories, and express emotions.

I took my first step into photography in elementary school when I was elected as the student council historian. My role allowed me to take the school yearbook photos—and I relished the opportunity. There was something magical about capturing the faces of my classmates, the little moments of joy and silliness, and then seeing those images for years to come. Those early experiences ignited a love for photography that grew stronger as I matured.

My mom, who has always been one of my greatest supporters, encouraged me to take my passion further. She saw my growing interest in photography and suggested I take college-level photography classes while I was in high school. My mom believed in me, and her encouragement gave me the confidence to pursue it. That decision became one of the most important steps in my journey. I learned the technical side of photography, from composition and lighting to editing and post-processing, while also exploring the creative aspects that made photography such a powerful form of self-expression.

In 2022, I earned my associate degree in commercial photography, and looking back, I realize just how much of a foundation I had built. The tools, the experience, and the constant support from my family had all shaped me into someone who could confidently step into the world of professional photography. Every project, session, and photo has been a step forward in my journey, and I feel incredibly blessed to have found something deeply aligned with who I am.

Looking back on my path, I realize how much I owe to those who guided and encouraged me. My dad taught me the value of storytelling through the lens, and my mom constantly pushed me to believe in myself. Along with family, mentors, and friends I’ve met along the way, they have helped me grow as an artist and a person. Their support has been invaluable, and it’s a reminder of how important it is to have people in your corner who believe in your dreams.

To anyone who dreams of pursuing photography, I encourage you to leap. Trust in the process, and don’t fear the bumps. It’s okay to feel uncertain or even overwhelmed at times. The road to becoming a photographer is not always a straight line, but every step, every challenge, and every moment of doubt will help shape you into the artist you’re meant to be. Photography has taught me so much—not just about technique but about seeing the world, appreciating the moments around me, and connecting with others through images. It’s a gift, and if you’re passionate about it, I believe you should pursue it wholeheartedly.

Photography is not just about capturing images; it’s about capturing life. When you approach it with that mindset, it becomes so much more than a career or a hobby—it becomes a way to share your heart and your perspective with the world.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The art of photography has always held a special place in my heart. From a young age, I was drawn to the way a single image could tell a story, evoke emotion, and capture a moment in time that would otherwise slip away. Now that I have my camera, I carry it wherever I go. It’s become a constant companion, always ready to capture the beauty surrounding me—whether in the quiet moments of everyday life or in the breathtaking scenes of nature.

I truly believe that God has guided me to this path, leading me to photography as a way to slow down and take in the wonders He has created. In a world that often feels rushed and chaotic, photography allows me to pause, to be present in the moment, and to truly see the beauty in the world around me. It’s as if each photo is an invitation to notice the things I might otherwise overlook—the delicate play of light and shadow, the vibrant colors of a sunset, the subtle textures in a landscape, or the deep emotion in a person’s eyes.

Through photography, I’ve come to see the beauty in the world, not just in grand vistas but in the small, everyday details that are often taken for granted. I feel a sense of awe and gratitude in capturing these moments, knowing that each shot is a way of honoring the Creator. It’s my way of offering thanks for the gift of sight, the chance to witness His creation, and the opportunity to share that beauty with others.

Each photograph feels like a quiet act of worship—an opportunity to reflect on the greatness of God and the stories He’s telling through His creation. Whether I’m photographing a landscape, a candid moment with a loved one, or an expression of joy, I feel as though I’m capturing more than just an image; I’m capturing a piece of His heart, a reminder of the love and grace He’s woven into the world. In sharing these photographs, I hope to invite others into that same sense of wonder, inspiring them to pause, reflect, and give thanks for the beauty around us.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
My advice for anyone starting in photography or looking to improve is simple: don’t be afraid to seek community. Photography can feel like a solitary pursuit, but finding a local photography club can open doors to much growth. These clubs provide a space to share your work, gain new perspectives, and connect with other photographers who can challenge and inspire you. The feedback and support you receive can make a difference in your development as an artist. There’s something special about being part of a community that understands the passion and challenges of photography. It helps you stay motivated and reminds you that you’re not alone on this journey.
