Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley BeLoat.
Hi Ashley, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My creative endeavors began in modeling back when I lived in Florida. At first, it was something I did for my own personal fulfillment and growth, never thinking I could pursue it professionally. After a couple of years, I found myself signing with a local commercial agency, a mother agency, and then getting my first contract in Los Angeles — where I then moved. LA is a unique place. Castings are diverse.
Jobs have a unique range. You can find everything from commercials to films, to voiceover, to hostings, and more. During this hustle, I booked my first lead role in a short film and discovered I wanted to take a more serious pursuit in acting while continuing my modeling endeavors. It was then I started training in scene study and sitcom techniques. Two years later, I’ve been blessed to work a multitude of jobs in feature film, short film, and television pilots. Modeling has continued to be present in my life as I’ve also been published in Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar in between roles.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The creative life is filled with obstacles to overcome. A finished product — a part in a film or a beautiful published editorial — is just a small piece of the work we really do. There is always something more to learn, there is always competition, and there are always many castings or auditions before the next booking comes. To keep an endurance in your field, you have to truly love it for the journey and the process…not just the end result. I soon learned to set goals not based on results but on what I can do to improve my skills. Love the process. Love the journey. If you devote yourself to these things, results will simply come.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In my modeling work, I truly enjoy fashion editorials. It gives the team an opportunity to tell a story or create a character. Unique posing and emotion always inspire me, and I love incorporating those things into a shoot. My latest Harper’s Bazaar editorial was a fashion story inspired by Marie Antoinette. It was very exciting to see how everyone on the team brought their talent together to echo her story.
In acting, I’ve been cast a lot in horror and thriller films. I’ve had my fair share of experience as a final girl and have sometimes been referred to as a scream queen. Horror is always a fun genre to work in and the people have been lovely to work with so far! Thanks to my training in sitcom technique, I have also booked some comedic roles ranging from the girl next-door love interest to the manipulative woman who uses men to get what she wants. Horror and comedy have many similarities I didn’t realize before having the opportunity to work and train in both.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
