Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelo Metz.
Hi Angelo, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started singing and playing guitar at age of 6. Son of a music teacher graduated with a bachelor’s degree in classical guitar from the Federal University in Brazil. In 1997 released first solo record, “Coming”, and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a master’s degree, and later a Doctoral degree, both at USC. Active as a solo artist, sideman, producer, composer, and educator in a variety of styles, I sing in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Guitar is my first instrument, and I also play bass, keys, and percussion.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s never as smooth as you want. You have to kill a lion a day, specially being a first-generation immigrant. The social and cultural differences were very challenging at first. Adapting and improvising are keys to success.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in Brazilian music, Jazz, Latin, and other styles, including electronic music. I’m very well known for my Bossa Nova credentials, playing and singing in the style of João Gilberto. I’m proud of all my musical accomplishments and am flexible and easy to work with. I’m also proud of my carefully curated collection of musical instruments and recording gear.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I have to thank my family, teachers, and colleagues for all the support, encouragement, and opportunities I have and have had. I would also like to thank Godin Guitars and Gamechanger Audio.
