Daily Inspiration: Meet Angel Mejia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Mejia.

Hi Angel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my photography journey back in 2010 when my sister gave me my first Canon DSLR. I spent a lot of time taking pictures at church events and music practices. I didn’t realize it then, but I was falling in love with music photography—just didn’t know it was a thing yet. After taking a break for a while, I picked up the camera again in 2021, this time photographing my plants with a Fujifilm X30. That simple act of taking pictures helped me reconnect with my passion. Soon after, I started shooting my friend’s band again, and that’s when everything changed. It felt like I was starting a new chapter—one where I could really find myself through the lens, tell stories, and create something meaningful. Photography has become more than a hobby; it’s a part of who I am.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It wasn’t a smooth road for me, especially when I first started in LA with music photography. I had to build everything from scratch, and being a girl in this male-dominated industry presented its own challenges. Often, I was the only Asian and the only girl in the pit—or sometimes there was no pit at all. I began by photographing LA’s underground scene and house shows, which was a raw and rewarding experience. Despite the hurdles, I stayed persistent, and through that, I was able to connect with more friends and discover talented artists and musicians. Eventually, I built genuine relationships with many of them, and those connections have been a crucial part of my growth as a photographer.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a LA-based music photographer who’s been in the scene for about 5 years, and I love catching live shows with cool tones and a vibe that feels timeless. I’ve shot a lot in the LA music scene and the Filipino-American community,
— plus at festivals with bands like Dream Theater, Goo Goo Dolls, Fall Out Boy, Muse, The Offspring, and touring OPM artists in the U.S.

Honestly, I’m proud of sticking with it in a male-dominated industry and building real relationships with the artists I work with. Being a female Asian photographer gives me a different perspective, and I love telling honest stories through my photos. What makes me different? My passion for live music, my dedication, and my obsession with capturing those raw, unforgettable moments.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
