Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Le.
Hi Amanda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I went to school at San Diego State University study Graphic Design. I was always very creative growing up but didn’t know what I wanted to get into. On a whim, while applying for college, I just clicked Graphic Design as my major and loved it ever since. After graduating, I accepted a full-time job at a creative agency in San Diego that I interned at while in college. This agency focused on restaurants and bars, so I was designing menus, socials, and event graphics. This position made me love San Diego even more, I made relations with people I never would without it. A year later, I decided it was time to move back to my hometown and thats where I accepted a position with the Honda Center/Anaheim Ducks. I truly felt a fish out of water because I knew nothing about hockey. But this is what I love of being a graphic designer, adapting and learning to your situation. I learned so much about my design that I never knew I could do. Also, the people I worked with made it feel like it wasn’t a job but just doing what I enjoy. During the pandemic, unfortunately I was furloughed but that lead me to where I am now, design for Off-air Branding Design for Disney’s Freeform.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It had its ups and downs, but I have been truly blessed with job opportunities. Sometimes in the moment, I second guess if this is really what I wanted to do. Deciding to move back from San Diego was an obstacle because I loved what I was doing but didn’t have the friends and family around to support me. But leaving my dream job lead me to an even better dream job. It hasn’t been easy but I do believe everything happens for a reason.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Outside of working and designing, I love working on little projects for myself or other people. From painting and building custom corn hole boards, designing custom tiki glass for a local bar, or helping friends with logos for their business. I would say I am really open to doing anything creative.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
For me, there are two ways I can be a risk taker, in the design world or in my personal life. Being a risk taker in the design world can be challenging because certain risks won’t please certain people or it will. From my experience, I’ve learned to always take that risk because in the end, it can be successful for even lead you to a better idea. For my personal life, I always see myself taking a calculated risk, really thinking about my options and pros and cons.
