Daily Inspiration: Meet Ali Mohamed

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ali Mohamed.

Hi Ali, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ll start from the very beginning. Actually I won’t, I’m not much of a writer. I’m doing the best I can as a VFX artist and I’m learning new things every day. I got into this career path on accident if I’m being honest. I was always hanging out with my buddy Chris (@chriscameraguy) on set for music videos and he encouraged me to get into editing. I had experience from making beats as a producer and uploading clips on YouTube so it felt natural to me. Is anyone still reading? I better not catch you drifting off in my interview. Anyways, it’s still early on in my career but I am proud to be working alongside many talented artists with a team that has my back. @chriscameraguy @j_moncrief

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Visibility is a double-edged sword. The Pod Pod Bros (My podcast with @chriscameraguy) has been catching heat from the babies on the internet. It doesn’t matter since it brings us more eyes on to the main work that we do which is filming and editing music videos. Our controversial topics and opinions are met with hate and derogatory comments from salty individuals who are against comedy. I love it though. This type of content gives me experience in editing podcasts and that is a very good skill to have since more and more people are starting up their own podcasts these days. Every skill learned in the world of film is a new potential for revenue earned.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in VFX work. I never went to school for this. I just have my laptop at home and YouTube as a guide. This type of editing takes a lot of time and dedication if you’re looking for a good outcome. You wanna know what’s weird though? Somehow I am known for head explosions. I really don’t think the artists like when I decapitate them in their own video but I think it’s hilarious and it ends up looking cool every time. It catches the audience off guard. We live in a low attention span generation. The way to set myself apart from others is to make a video look interesting from start to finish. If not, people will click away, even if they like the song.

What matters most to you? Why?
Spaghetti. Let me tell you why. Spaghetti fills you up and makes you happy. You can make a large batch and leave it in the fridge and it will last longer than most food. It’s perfect for someone like me that does not like to cook. I don’t even want to make cereal. I’m eating spaghetti for breakfast. I’ve seen individuals more cultured than myself who put spaghetti in their pockets and save it for later. That is art. That is what inspires my edits, my podcast, and my soul.
