Daily Inspiration: Meet Alex The Lion

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex The Lion

Hi Alex, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is AlexTheLion
My story started as a young boy growing up in the countryside in the U.K I was a huge tv fanatic addicted to Buffy the vampire slayer & Charmed, Charlie’s angels originally wanted to be actor because I wanted to be on tv but it was through Britney Spears & about the time the cheetah girls 2 came out I discovered my real passion was for dance.

I had a lot of energy so packed my week with after school activities with dance gymnastics & martial arts. From the age of 13-15

At the age of 15 I got into a years scholarship at the central school of ballet on the weekends and that trained & prepared me to get into a full 3 year performing arts college at The Urdang academy in London.
Those were the most fun days I rember loving moving from the countryside-to London and chasing my dreams & being surrounded by like minded people with the same goals.

In my last year of college I started auditions and working. Booked my first job dancing on X factor UK followed by a performance with Rihanna at the BRIT awards at the age of 18
Those following years I worked as a commercial
Dancer in London dancing for various artists Taylor Swift, Ellie Goulding toured with Rita Ora
performed in the London 2012 Olympics the MTV EMAS was a featured dancer in some music videos that were at the top of the UK charts at the time a career highlight in London was dancing for Ariana Grande on Victoria’s Secret fashion show

I was also fortunate enough to do two West End musicals for a year the Whitney Houston “The Bodyguard” & Michael Jackson “Thriller”
Each was a great experience performing 8 shows a week it also allowed me to travel to China and tour partially for 4 months going to 10 different cities from Shanghai been in Macau & Hong Kong to name a few

Around the age of 24 I had a deep desire to move to the states expand my career path also train more so I moved to New York City.
I re fell in love with dance and the city the culture
Worked more as a dancer there a highlight performing with shomadjozi as an Afro beats dancer in Central Park at global citizen festival

After this I moved to Los Angeles end of 2019
I came with the right energy and worked on the “the prom” Netflix movie danced for Kanye west at the Hollywood bowl danced for Rosalia, Kali Uchis, doechi. I was fortune enough to work on a tv show with one of my favorite artists Tinashe and was a runner up as a choreographer on her tv show “choreocagefight” I was also danced for Tinashe for a pride headline show in nyc which was a career highlight itself

The last few years working for artists helped me find my passion for choreography I started teaching classes in LA and reaching out to music artists and giving them private lessons
Some include maeta, Vanjess, Jae Stephens

Alongside that 2024 was the year I wanted to choreograph for music videos
So I worked on a big one for kaytranda and Dawn Richard hold on
That one was such a smash hit of music video I got to use 6 dancers and go as far as I wanted creatively it turned out amazing and was such a dream

Other music videos I worked on this year was WET for def jam artist Jae stephens

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say there have for sure been many struggles.

Mentally to keep going LA relationships can be very fleeting a lot of people have come in and out of my life so I have for sure had to find inner strength and solidarity to stay grounded

Financially as well finding balance creating a lifestyle where I’m
Not over worked but still have enough to live has also at times been a struggle

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Choreography
Most proud of my music video Choreographed for Dawn Richard & kaytranda hold on

Dance wise for Tinashe in New York for her lady land show or dancing for Ariana grande at Victoria’s Secret fashion show

How do you define success?
Success I think is being happy within yourself and what you have achieved I think it’s about being content with also what you have. It’s so easy to constantly long for the next thing but I’ve found finding balance within enjoying and appreciating what I have but also striving for the next destination is a great balance to keep elevating
