Daily Inspiration: Meet Alejandra A.larcon Pozos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandra A.larcon Pozos

Hi Alejandra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Being a hair stylist has always been a challenge. I doubted myself more than a few times, I started my career when I was 24 but I was fortunate to have a first boss as a mentor and much of what I know was taught to me by another woman, also by my best friend who was a stylist. After my marriage separation/divorce and with two wonderful children already young and in college, I decided to dedicate myself full time to being a hairdresser , working in two different cities, Whittier and Pasadena, I became an independent contractor and started from scratch. In this career, creating a good contact with clients is important because people always remember how you made them feel and behind a chair I always try to make my clients feel that they are in good hands and that my job as a professional artist is to make them feel better after being in the salon. It is very gratifying to see a customer happy with the work that I do. I have being doing hair for more than 15 years and I know that the beauty industry changes and you never stop learning, I have a passion for what I do. Now I understand that those difficult years at the beginning worth it because thanks to all difficulties I became the hairdresser I am now.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The beginning of this career is the hardest part, because even though saying you want to be a stylist sounds pretty good at first, you realise that it means dealing with people and their image, and that is a challenge. And those are the moments when you doubt whether this is for you or not. I cried many times even though I really wanted to be a good stylist. Overcome my own negative thoughts was the first challenge.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a cosmetologist and I specialize in hair, mainly hair cutting and coloring, which is what I have focused on throughout my career. My clients know me for my delicate work and honesty when consulting about what they want and what I honestly and respectfully suggest to them. Each client is important to me and each one of them deserves quality time and work.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I see myself in the future teaching new stylists, I would like to be able to teach what I have learned to generations of stylists. I am not selfish and I would gladly share what I have learned and will continue to learn with others.
I continue learning, I continue growing professionally and personally. I don’t want to be the best but I do want to be better every day. The challenge is with myself and I respect other colleagues a lot and I admire some of them a lot.
