Daily Inspiration: Meet Akane Abe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Akane Abe.

Hi Akane, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started doing nails it was about two years ago. One of my best friend always has nice nails done and I was jealous about it because at the moment the place that I worked wasn’t allowed to get nails done even tho short natural color. So what I did was paint my nails with regular nail polish when I have days off and take it off before go to work. After I graduated from university in Japan I came to LA to study English and learn break dance.

One day my roommate asked me where I got nails done and I told her that I do by myself. Then she goes like “Omg you should start your own business!” But to be honest I wasn’t thinking about it at all because I was doing for fun and I was forcing on dancing more than that. However after that I got asked same question my many times and finally I decided to be a nail artist.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I learned doing nails from only watching YouTube videos. I was good at drawing stuff since when I was little but there’s a lot of things to learn besides that. I needed a model who can let me use their nails to practice but I didn’t have many friends because I’m not from here and couldn’t speak good English so I didn’t have a enough confident.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Japanese nail artist in LA. I graduated from technical high school. My major was architecture and design so my drawing skills and sense is coming from that. I’m specialized in Japanese style nails art but I can do many different styles too.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t have many friends here but every single my friends here are so supportive in that part I can say I have a good luck. And I speak three language that help me to make conversation w international people.
