Daily Inspiration: Meet Agnes Hsu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Agnes Hsu.

Hi Agnes, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My first business was a bakery that I great to five locations in five years in the SF Bay Area. After I had kids, I wanted to spend more time with time so started a kids creative blog in 2013. It took off and I started two more blogs after that, a kids food site and board games website. I also manage my son’s baking Instagram and am the author of a children’s book My Color Is Rainbow, about kindness, and newly published book: Recyle and Play: 50 learn and play activities for preschoolers using recycled materials.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I started off sharing what I loved to do with my kids. However, as my sites grew and became a business, I realized I needed to also start creating content that resonated with my audience and create what THEY wanted to see. This was an important shift in perspective that changed how I manage my business today, but it didn’t come easy and took a few years to solidify my strategy, which is still constantly changing as the online content space does.

Another struggle is that social media is a huge part of my business. I’ve been privy to the many social media algorithm challenges and changing ways to share content over the years (from photos (Pinterest) to video, and now shorter form reels and TikToks. In my business, you have to constantly learn content creation skills and how to be current in how to show off your content. This takes a lot of time and devotion. For example, I had no idea how to create engaging visual, viral-worthy videos and had to learn from the ground up.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am primarily known for my kid’s creative website where I share crafts and DIYs for kids: www.hellowonderful.co. I also have a kid’s food website called www.helloyummy.co where I share fun family and kid-friendly recipes. I started a board game website: www.bestboardgames.co last year with a focus on sharing family-friendly board games. As well, my just turned four years old loves to bake so we have a fun Instagram for him @dashbakesthegreats sharing fun kids baking recipes.

I am the author of a children’s book My Color Is Rainbow, about kindness, and a newly published book: Recyle and Play: 50 learn and play activities for preschoolers using recycled materials (out this Jan 2022) but available now for preorder on Amazon.

What’s next?
I plan on continuing in the online content space, primarily focusing on my content creation for my sites and social media. I am also an influencer for many family-friendly and craft/diy companies and plan to continue in that space.
