Daily Inspiration: Meet Adam Sigal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Sigal.

Hi Adam, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to Los Angeles from Florida at age 19 to become a novelist. I was helping an actress friend with an audition and reading the script I thought: man, this is bad, I could write a better script than this! So I downloaded a screenwriting program and got to it. It’s been a long road (which I’m still traveling upon!). I got married, had kids, got divorced, worked for almost 15 years as a private investigator…but I’m finally in a position now where I’m able to make the weird little sci-fi indies that I want to make!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been the opposite of a smooth road. I am a good writer and always have been. But I never wanted to make horror or thrillers or faith-based…I basically did not want to do anything that’s been done before, so that inherently makes it much more difficult to succeed. A large part of this business is just that–a business and financiers and production companies are very risk-averse and not always open to new material from relative unknowns. So it’s certainly been a long and at times daunting road, but an absolutely unwavering, unreasonably, probably unjustified faith in my own ability has carried me up to this point.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a filmmaker! I write, direct, and produce. I am co-owner of a little independent film company called Scarlett Pictures. We strive to make unique, avant garde films that take risks and go against the grain of the current film industry.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’ve always been a huge reader. My first love is sci-fi and fantasy, and that has led me into an obsession with comics and graphic novels. I’ve also always been into sports! A lot of my personality nowadays is tied into my being a dad. I love my kids and terrible dad jokes.
