Today we’d like to introduce you to Abiodun Koya.
Hi Abiodun, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a classical singer, poet, and a fashion entrepreneur. I was introduced into the arts at a very tender age by my father. By age 6, I was already singing, writing songs, poems, and designing clothes for my dolls. So, I knew at a young age the route I wanted to take in life and what my passion was.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For the most part, it’s been smooth, but like anything in life, you will face challenges and struggles along the way. I say smooth because, for a woman of color in my line of work, I’ve had to work extra hard, and my talent proved itself. It also helps to have a bit of spirituality in you. It makes the path easier and understandable.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At this point in my life, I refer to myself as an all-around creative because of the many aspects to me. I specialize in music, poetry, culture, digital art, songwriting, composition stage, directing, producing experiential events, and more.
What sets me apart from others is that I am willing to take risks, I understand you cannot be a full and true artist without having a major respect the spiritual reality and also that I think outside the box.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
God, the Source of all things.
