Daily Inspiration: Meet Abe Spigner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abe Spigner.

Hi Abe, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Born & raised in New York & went to Florida State & two other art schools for acting before moving to Los Angeles. I got an agent & booked a national commercial my first audition for anything out here. Since then, I’ve been working somewhat consistently in front of the camera & DJing as my normal job.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think the biggest obstacle that I’ve had to work through has been fighting stereotypes. I would prefer to do science fiction but it’s been difficult to have casting directors see me in that light.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I think the thing that sets me apart the most is the fact that I know exactly who I am & I tend to wear that on my sleeve. I love fashion & people can see that. I love hip-hop & people can see that. As an actor, I think most people know me for commercials that they’ve seen me in and we tend to talk about that a lot. I’ve been DJing since 1996 so all of my close friends know how much I do that and I’ve been playing out in Los Angeles regularly since 2003.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I wish I knew how important details were. I think that focusing on the details really kind of solidifies what you’re capable of in this town. That can definitely set you apart from people who don’t know those things. Also most importantly knowing who you are is without a doubt the most important bit of advice that I wish I knew when I was first starting out. There’s way too many people in that town that have no idea who they are. Oh also, I think it’s very important that actors know that they’re not right for every single role that they go out for. If you were right for everything that you went out for, you’d book every single thing.
