Today we’d like to introduce you to Simi Valley’s The Sandwich Spot.
Please tell us about how you got started in the restaurant business.
Business partners Ty & Steve have always big eaters and love finding delicious food. Looking to open their own business, they started looking into quick serve restaurant concepts. Steve grew up in the Bay Area eating sandwiches on Dutch Crunch and Sourdough and missed not being able to get his favorite meal in the LA area. After introducing his partner Ty to the unique San Francisco style sandwiches, they both knew they had found the perfect concept to bring to So-Cal. Ty and Steve teamed up with San Francisco legend “Tom Slick” (founder of the Sandwich Spot) to bring these speciality sandwiches down south. In 2014, Ty and Steve opened The Sandwich Spot in Simi Valley and are hoping to open more locations in the Los Angeles area.
Has it been a smooth road to get to where you are today?
One of the most difficult challenges in opening a new restaurant is obtaining starting capital. After being turned down by every bank for a loan we were able to secure the rest of our staring capital from a family member who believed in us and was willing to take out a second mortgage on their home. We are very thankful that they believed in us and they are the reason we are open today.
Other challenges would include the growing pains of starting a new business with very limited restaurant experience.
Tell us about what makes The Sandwich Spot special or unique?
We serve West Coast style sandwiches on world famous Boudin breads like Sourdough and Dutch Crunch. We bring in the bread from San Francisco and bake it fresh in store for an amazing taste. Our unique sandwich combinations and fresh local produce create an experience like no other. The signature house sauces like Bomb, Psycho and Secret Sauce add another level of flavor if you want to kick things up a notch.
