Conversations with Yel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yel.

Hi Yel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well, I grew up heavy around music growing up. My father was a saxophone/piano player and my mother sang and directed in the church. That’s really where it all started. Grew up listening to a lot of Hip hop, R&B and jazz. Artists that inspired me along the way were artists like Missy Elliott, Lauren Hill, The Fugees, Outkast, and Jcole. Throughout my years in high school, I continued to write and flow all the time with my brothers and friends. But once I got to college, my seriousness on really doing music as my career really played strong in my mind. Once my mother past while in my sophomore year, I knew that was my sign that life is too short. So I made that major jump a lot of artists go through and went for it. Went home (to Pasco, Washington State) packed my bags and moved to LA.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I definitely wouldn’t say smooth. But honestly, I believe all growth can be uncomfortable or even painful at times. As an artist dealing with all the ups and downs of the industry can at times be overwhelming. But I think for me, the music and content that Is created within the struggle of life period makes all of it worth it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Rapper/Artist.

I think one of the things that I’m overall proud of is the amount of love that I get from my fans and supporters. I put so much of myself into each project whether videos, content or music and the love and support I get from people who relate to my music makes it’s amazing to me. One of my main goals as an artist to be able to share my life, pains, happiness, struggles through my music and to remind people to stay true to who they are and not what others want them to be. So every time someone reaches out to share how my music helped them, or related to them or made them smile makes me feel accomplished.

I feel what sets me apart from others is my sound. Who I am as person. And what I grind for.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see several bodies of work released, I see music nominations, major performances, new business ventures like clothing design and acting. Overall I see nothing but major elevation in the 5-10 years.
