Conversations with Will Gill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Gill.

Will Gill

Hi Will, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
In June of 2020, I posted on social media that I am open to DJ and emcee charity virtual events for graduates who weren’t able to have in-person parties. In exchange, I just wanted to be tagged and reposted across various social media platforms. That December, the parents of those graduates had their own company holiday parties on Zoom. They remembered my charity in the summer and the result was 3-4 virtual gigs almost every day in the month of December 2020. This continued well through 2021. As companies started to return to live events, I was asked to continue being their DJ and emcee. Since that charity post in June of 2020, I have performed over 600 virtual events and have traveled the world as the DJ, Emcee, and team-building leader for Fortune 100 companies. I also won several awards and acclaim, including Forbes Next 1000 and Wall Street Journal’s “Virtual DJ for Boosting Company Morale”.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. Behind the scenes, I work vigilantly on my own SEO and website maintenance. In late 2020, I was sued by a web developer and marketing firm who claimed I reverse-engineered their technology to make my website rank #1 globally. At the time, they represented a rival DJ and it was simply a move to shut down my website. That was a struggle.

I also had over-exhausted myself by taking on every virtual event that came in. Including 2am sets for Australia and 7pm sets for Europe. The result was alot of coffee and food delivery to keep the engine running, which of course turned into weight gain.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an interactive entertainer with several acclaims and awards. I also have over 1300 Five Star reviews on my Google business page. I am very proud of that. What sets me apart is that I work as a team player. The big-budget events I do have many moving pieces and players. It is not about me. It is about the end client; the attendee. I pride myself in only wanting people to let go of the externals and celebrate life for a few hours at a time.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
In 2020, when all gigs were canceled and asking for their money back, I took a big risk and made a big purchase to buy the domain name ZoomDJs.com. This is where much of the previously mentioned SEO strength came from. I had the option to save my unemployment checks and wait out the pandemic or push most of it into that purchase and build myself a high-ranking virtual event entertainment site.
