Conversations with Viviane Angélique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Viviane Angélique

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
So… I moved to LA about 2 years ago a little bit unexpectedly. I had always been passionate about acting but wasn’t sure how or where I was going to pursue it after finishing college. I had always been very fond of New York and was sure I’d somehow end up there. But many things happened in the meantime, and a funny twist of fate made me discover the Stella Adler Art of Acting Studio in Los Angeles. I didn’t think about it too much and applied. When I got the news that I got in, I don’t remember doubting the decision to go at all. I felt like, “here I go, that’s what life wants me to do”. And hopped on a plane about a month or so later. Being in the Art of Acting studio conservatory program has a life changing opportunity and also such a gift. I didn’t have to work too hard to find a community and people who have now become great friends, they were all already waiting for me in that building. I am very grateful of how confident I grew on my journey there, making me fonder and fonder of acting and art, and eventually leading me to produce and star in my own stage production last summer. Now that I am about to graduate, I look back on the last two years with an overwhelming amount of love in my heart.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road, and at the same time I’m aware of how privileged I am to be able to be an international student in the US. The move to LA was not very thoughtfully planned since I didn’t have a lot time between the news of being accepted into AOA and actually flying to LA. Ive experience multiple living experiences, not mostly good, but now I have finally found some stables grounds with good friends.
Artistically speaking, the challenges were abundant too. I did mention how confident I grew throughout my years at AOA, and at the same time the questions keep multiplying as well as the doubts. I think I’ve come to realize that the more I got educated about acting the more I found out how much there is to learn and how I am just beginning to grasp this great big magical art form.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am obviously an actor, but I’ve come to realize that nowadays an actor can hardly only stick to acting.
Through my production of “The Effect” by Lucy Prebble last summer, I’ve discovered in me a small producer, costume designer, production manager, prop designer, graphic designer, social media manager and more.

Having to learn all of these skills under a big amount of pressure has just made so much more versatile and multidimensional as an artist and as a businesswoman. I am very proud of my resilience in those times where I had to teach myself everything from A to Z.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is probably during the time I lived in Laos, from when I was 10 to 15. I had two best friends, which still are to this day, Zoe and Daisy, and I think anytime we got to hang out the three of us together created core memories of joy for me. They are so different and yet both shaped me to be who I am today. We were very creative together, always doing bits, filming little shorts. We were so thirsty for art and eager to express ourselves, and I have never laughed harder in my entire life than with them.
