Conversations with Tim Ford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Ford.

Hi Tim, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my clothing business MANDEM in 2016 as an outlet for my thoughts following the passing of my mother. During this process, I chose to further establish and legitimize the brand as i began receiving positive feedback. Although not even close to where i want to be, i have gotten as far as i have by focusing all my energy and resources into delivering product that is considered more difficult to release to retail.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Anything but a smooth road lol. It is very challenging running a clothing line with a limited network and limited capital, but I am beyond proud of my team and myself for fighting to bring these ideas to fruition and attempt to make a living off of constant creativity and the will to succeed.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
MANDEM is a streetwear brand that specializes in delivering quality upper midrange-priced footwear & apparel that differs from other contemporary brands by calling upon both nostalgic hip-hop culture cues and high fashion concepts at a time where most produce one or the other.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was a naturally inquisitive child that always wanted to learn how things work and how I can make things myself. I’ve always been a sneakerhead and in love with urban culture, I was raised on the internet and infatuated with building community and bringing together like-minded people.
