Today we’d like to introduce you to Theo Brown.
Hi Theo, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I moved out to the West Adams neighborhood in LA eight years ago, where I was able to start PAing while making shorts. After a while, I was able to start 1st ADing, while making my first film. Through Covid-19, we were able to finish our second one, and now we’re in development for a few upcoming projects. It’s been amazing to leave a meeting with a studio and take a moment to remember where we were a few years ago.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
These past few years have certainly impacted my idea of “struggles” and challenges, but it also gave perspective on what’s the most important. I’m glad I’ve been able to work on films and keep telling stories of hope and perseverance – sometimes in that process, I’m reminded that there’s no such thing as a smooth road. Just a road with chances for new opportunities.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Since my last interview with y’all, I’ve been able to finish a second film and just continue to learn and grow more as a director. Meeting like-minded creatives and collaborating on upcoming projects continues to be a huge joy – each step brings a new adventure.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
If there’s anything I’ve learned from this pandemic – especially from the first year and a half – is that the human spirit is so resilient. It made me truly appreciate the family and community I’ve been blessed to grow and create with. We finished our film AN ELECTRIC SLEEP during that time, and while we hit challenge after challenge, the support of those people kept us going.
