Today we’d like to introduce you to The Ugly Boys.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We met in 7th grade in Santa Cruz California but didn’t start making music together until high school. Before we had any following we made some music together that got local attention but no real looks outside of Santa Cruz. Once the pandemic hit, we locked in and our music started to get attention online. During 2020 we successfully dropped and blew up two of our songs (Life Could be a Dream and Run Away!), getting us an even stronger online fanbase. In 2021 we were able to move to LA as part of a deal that ended up falling through. This stalled our release dates but we were able to take that time to put together our debut mixtape, “Runners High. Multiple songs off this unreleased mixtape have gone viral on the internet (Runners High, Get Some More, Run Away!). After our fans have pressed us for months about when the project will drop, we’re finally ready to release it on October 21st, 2022.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been the smoothest road, as we had to quickly learn that everyone who wants to do business with you may not have your best interests in mind. We have learned to keep a tighter circle of people that are genuinely concerned for our well-being, and every things gone a lot smoother since we have weeded out the people who just want to make money off us.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We write, record, and produce Hip Hop music. The thing we are most proud of right now is our unreleased mixtape Runners High, it’s cool to work on something cohesive after dropping singles for so long, and we are excited to see our fans react to the project as we think it’s our best work yet.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
We learned how to stay consistent in the face of adversity during Covid and were lucky enough to be able to make the best of a bad situation by locking in and recording more music.
