Hi Tetchnica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The idea for my business actually came to me during one of the most difficult times in my life. I was experiencing homelessness and moving through different shelters, trying to stay hopeful and grounded. I started thinking deeply about what kind of business I could start to help my situation. something I’d be passionate about and could pour my heart into.
I’ve always had a love for decorating, aesthetics, and creating beautiful, meaningful experiences and I remembered a time when I had booked a luxury picnic for a friend, and I was completely inspired by how stunning and thoughtful the setup was, I thought to myself “I would love to do something like that” and that moment stayed with me. Even without knowing exactly when or how I would start, I saved up money little by little and started purchasing items for the business. Piece by piece, it started coming together. Today, I’m able to bring my ideas to life through my business Khadijah’s Flavors and I get to create unforgettable moments and luxury picnic experiences for others and I’m so proud of the journey.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly my journey definitely have been full of ups and downs. When I first started, I was unemployed and had very limited resources. Every dollar I had went toward buying the things I needed for my business, and it took me over a year to fully get started.
One of the biggest challenges was storage. I didn’t have a stable place to keep my items, so I invested in a storage unit but there were times when I almost lost it because I couldn’t afford the payments. On top of that, I didn’t have transportation, which made it hard to move items or even show up for potential events. I thought about hiring a driver, but financially, that just wasn’t an option.
Once I finally got a car, everything started to fall into place. I was able to move around, do setups, and really bring my business to life and looking back, every single item I invested in during those hard times is something I now use regularly. It showed me that nothing I went through or spent was wasted. It was all part of building what I have now.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a luxury event and picnic planner and caterer. The owner of Khadijah’s Flavors. I specialize in creating luxury events, experiences and creative catering for both intimate gatherings and larger events. While luxury picnics are what we’re currently most known for, we’re expanding and building toward offering more large-scale celebrations and catering services in the near future.
What sets my work apart is the love, effort, and creativity I pour into every detail and as a Muslim, I provide halal food and treats to my clients. If you’re not familiar with halal, it simply means food that is prepared according to Islamic dietary guidelines. clean, ethical, and permissible. It’s something that’s deeply important to me and my community, and it allows me to serve clients who value those standards while still enjoying beautiful and luxurious experiences. You do not have to be Muslim to enjoy halal, it’s food made with care, intention, and high standards that anyone can enjoy and feel good about.
I’m very proud of how far I’ve come, especially knowing that everything I’ve built has come from passion and persistence. I have a gift for seeing the bigger picture, even when I’m only holding a few small pieces at the time. That mindset keeps me moving forward and always imagining what’s next.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe consistency is the most important quality behind my success. Even when things were hard, I kept showing up for my dream, little by little. Whether it was saving a few dollars, buying one decor item at a time, or pushing through self-doubt, staying consistent helped me build something real.
