Conversations with Taylor Mosby

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Mosby.

Hi Taylor, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I bought my first camera in 2011 and took a class at my local college in hopes of becoming a snowboarding and action sports photographer. Life had different plans and I was blessed with a beautiful baby girl by 2014. I couldn’t help but take photos of her. I was enamored by her beauty and wanted to encapsulate it. This organically morphed into friends gracefully allowing me to take photos of their families, events, etc. I fell in love with how you can tell a story in a meaningful and artistic way while still feeling true to the subjects in them. My mom was a photographer as well. She lugged around a Canon AE-1 in the ’90s to capture our childhood in all its essence. She was a single mom and still not sure how she manages that. She created some beautiful images that I share on my Instagram. She has Alzheimer’s now so it makes me incredibly thankful for your dedication to taking photos of us as kids. She is my inspiration.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is any road smooth? I used photography as a creative outlet and a way to get some extra cash as a single mom over the years. About a year ago I really started to take it seriously. This meant I needed to reach out to other creatives and step up my game. With a lot of different photographers out there, I had to understand how I can be of service to people like no one else.

I have been able to meet some beautiful people and am lucky that I get to work under people I admire.

That beautiful thing about running a creative business is I can really do whatever I want 🙂 There is no right or wrong. Sometimes, honestly, it feels like throwing spaghetti against a wall to see if something sticks. Some ideas work, some don’t. Work hard & just keep moving.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in capturing connection; specifically families and weddings. Aside from my creative approach and photographic style, my business is rooted in service, first and foremost. My hope is that I can make an impact on my clients as much as they make on mine. I value quality over quantity.

The day is ultimately about the client, not me. Each wedding is unique and is a blank slate for me to use varies photographic mediums (film & digital) to capture the essence of the day. I want you to remember how it felt. It’s an honor and a privilege and I don’t take it lightly.

I grew up in a small mountain town under Mount Shasta, CA & the youngest of all boys siblings. I am down-to-earth and a people person.

As a 31-year-old millennial, I had the gift of experiencing childhood without technology. As middle school rolled around, I was able to experience the baby stages technology (hello dial-up!). I have been able to experience the best of both worlds. I say this because as a 31-year-old who was obsessed with HTMLing her way through Myspace- I have seen countless trends come and go when it comes to photography. Trends do not stand the test of time. I am not here to slap a trend over your one and only wedding day. I am here to be the eyes for generations to come. I use film and digital cameras as a medium to paint a story on a blank canvas.

How I photograph:
Documentary & artistic approach
Intuitively driven
Relaxed
Fly on the wall
Nothing forced, pure flow
Nothing stuffy – nothing in your face

& one thing is for sure – we will have a good time!

What are your plans for the future?
I am looking forward to connecting with more people. Getting weird and funky with photography – more personal projects to see how else I can bend my creative process. I am excited about a new project I have coming up for family photography as well that you can follow along with on Instagram. Ultimately delivering quality service & photography to my clients.
