Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana Gerusova. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Tatiana Gerusova is a fashion photographer and portraitist with an affirmed style. Born in Russia, she expressed an interest in photography from childhood. With her father, she learned to develop her own photos in the darkroom and with her mother, she devoured fashion magazines. Very quickly, it was love at first sight. She fell in love with black-and-white fashion photography through the shots of Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, and Claudia Schiffer by Peter Lindbergh. After five years of studying art and music, she flew to the USA to live the Hollywood dream she had so often imagined. In Los Angeles, she soon made a name for herself in the fashion industry, but it was when she won first prize at the annual competition of Photo magazine that her career took off. Today, Tatiana Gerusova is one of the key references in fashion photography. The likes of Hailey Baldwin, Jennifer Lopez, and Camila Cabello have all passed before her lens. Her pin-up touch has inundated fashion magazines (including Vogue Italia and Pin Up America), occupied galleries the world over, and even won over the Guess brand, with whom she collaborates, showcasing the sensuality and eroticism of women from one advertising campaign to the next.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Establishing yourself in a highly competitive industry doesn’t come easy. Building a reputation and gaining recognition required persistence, hard work, and the ability to stand out. On the other hand, moving to the USA to pursue my dreams was a significant step, but it also came with its set of challenges. Adjusting to a new culture, understanding the nuances of the industry, building a network, etc. demanded adaptability and resilience; and navigating the balance between artistic vision and commercial requirements while staying true to my style and identity was sometimes challenging as well.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I strive to capture the beauty, sensuality and strength of women in my work. My work focuses on celebrating the individuality of my subjects, showcasing their confidence and empowerment. On top, my early fascination with black-and-white fashion photography remains an integral part of my style. I mostly use monochrome tones to emphasize the mood, composition, and emotions in my images.
How do you think about luck?
Throughout my career, I’ve had the good fortune of meeting influential people in the industry or potential clients through chance encounters or networking events. These meetings presented opportunities for collaboration and exposure, which helped me advance my career. It’s important to note that luck alone isn’t enough to sustain a successful career in a competitive field. Hard work, talent, consistency, and professionalism are equally essential.
