Conversations with Tarah Davis

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Tarah Davis.

Tarah Davis

Hi Tarah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
At 17, I began working as a city employee for the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. I got accepted into my top choice college, worked full-time during the day, and attended school at night. Shortly after, I started a new job at a different city agency. In 2012, I graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice with my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude with honors. Working full-time, taking graduate-level classes, and maintaining a 3.5 GPA is not for the faint of heart. Immediately after I graduated, I began applying to higher-paying positions. I was overqualified for every position because I now had two degrees instead of one. I prayed and asked God to allow me to work on my purpose instead of my field. A few months later, I was introduced to network marketing. For the next year, I was a full-time city employee by day and self-employed by night. The following year, at the age of 27, I retired from the corporate workforce.

My corporate job prevented me from attaining my immediate goal of earning six figures. I didn’t just resign from my job, but my pension, benefits, and financial stability as well. People thought I was crazy because I am. I knew that if I devoted more time to my part-time business, it would eventually surpass my corporate job, and it did. The following year, my business more than doubled my earnings as an employee. Betting on myself allowed me to meet new people, travel the world, upgrade my lifestyle, and surpass six figures.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a first-generation college graduate and entrepreneur, it’s been a roller coaster. But I love a good ride. Being the first at anything comes with immense pressure, expectations, and much trial and error. With my first business, getting friends, family, and colleagues to believe in my vision was the most challenging part. I later realized that, in many instances, strangers will support you before the people who know you. I was forced to create a new circle of friends, not because I wanted to but because I had no choice.

That was the best thing for me because it taught me how to build and maintain a network. Through this experience, I learned that your net worth is determined by your network. Creating and launching my gratitude journal also came with challenges. That process taught me people aren’t who they “post” to be. I wanted to hire professionals who looked like me so badly, but I learned that business is business through that process. Just because we share the same skin tone does not mean we share the same values, integrity, and professionalism.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In 2019, I envisioned creating a gratitude journal with a twist. The journal would unite gratitude and affirmations through music and culture. In 2020, I wanted to test my selling power before launching, so I became an Amazon Influencer. Although I had been building my personal brand for years, I decided to turn things up a notch.

In early 2021, I started sourcing logos, websites, graphic designers, and more to help bring my vision to life. By June, No Gratitude No Glory, the journal was launched. Within two weeks of receiving my first overseas shipment, I sold out of 440 journals. This happened with no paid advertisement, PR, or team. Just me, my vision, and God. That’s when it hit me that the brand I was building was bigger than I thought. Since 2021, I have become a full-time author, brand strategist, stylist, influencer, content creator, and live streamer.

In 2022, Amazon Live presented an opportunity for me to start streaming on their platform. Although I had never done anything like it, I happily accepted. It’s been over two years since I launched The Tarah Show on Amazon Live. I stream every Tuesday and Thursday at 9 pm EST. My niche is in fashion, skincare, beauty, home and lifestyle.

I am most proud of my work ethic, fearlessness, and ability to take calculated risks. Additionally, I am great at building relationships that often lead to elevation. What sets me apart from others is my authenticity. What you see is what you get 24/7.

Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
The best way to work with and collaborate with me is through email at [email protected].

Additionally, I can be found on all social platforms, @TheTarahShow. My favorite platforms are Instagram, TikTok, and Amazon. My gratitude journal, No Gratitude No Glory, is available for purchase on tarahmail.com.
