Hi Tamanna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey fresh out of high school as a cosmetologist and makeup artist, balancing client bookings, bridal campaigns, and editorial work while juggling my university classes. But everything changed when I embraced social media at its very beginning—starting with MySpace, then Facebook, YouTube, and eventually Instagram. Unlike most people who used these platforms to connect with friends and family, I saw an opportunity. I used social media to share my work, network, and teach, offering insider tips and techniques that weren’t widely available at the time.
Before I knew it, my name spread across the globe, and I built a cult following of beauty lovers eager to learn from me. This demand led me to launch my in-person masterclasses over a decade ago, selling out worldwide. I then became the first to take beauty education online with my own subscription-based platform, DressYourFace LIVE, revolutionizing the way makeup artistry was taught digitally.
Today, I own the #1 most subscribed-to beauty tutorial app worldwide and a high-end professional beauty brush line, DYF BEAUTY. My passion has always been about more than just makeup—it’s about education, empowerment, and pushing boundaries in the beauty industry. And what started as a one-woman operation has grown into a global movement, proving that when you carve your own path, the possibilities are endless.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest struggles starting out was resisting the noise—whether it was society’s expectations or the opinions of fellow creators. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of comparison, questioning if you’re doing things ‘the right way’ just because someone else is on a different path. But I quickly realized that my uniqueness is my superpower. The beauty industry is full of trends, but true success comes from embracing what makes you different.
The road I’ve taken wasn’t laid out for me—I had to build it myself, brick by brick, often without a clear guide. There were challenges, doubts, and moments where I had to bet on myself when no one else would. But by staying true to my vision and refusing to conform, I’ve been able to create something that is entirely my own. And that journey has taken me to places I never could have imagined.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a makeup artist, educator, and entrepreneur, my work revolves around empowering people through beauty. I specialize in high-precision, professional makeup artistry with a strong emphasis on creating flawless, sculpted looks that enhance natural features. I’m best known for my signature techniques, such as my detailed contouring and dramatic East-meets-West eye makeup styles, which have influenced a new wave of beauty trends globally.
Beyond artistry, I’m also an educator. Through my masterclasses and online platforms, I’ve taught millions of aspiring artists worldwide, making high-level beauty education more accessible. One of my proudest achievements is pioneering the first-ever live online makeup masterclass, which set a new standard in beauty education.
What sets me apart is my commitment to both artistry and empowerment. I don’t just teach makeup—I teach confidence. I believe that beauty should be a tool for self-expression and strength, no matter a person’s age, background, or role in life. Whether it’s through my masterclasses, my social media influence, or my brush line, my goal is always to uplift and inspire others to feel powerful in their own skin.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
If you truly want something to happen, you need to write it down and create a solid plan of action. So many times, we have brilliant ideas that stay dormant and then forgotten because we never take the steps to bring them to life. Clarity and execution are everything.
When I was starting out, I wish I had understood the power of strategic goal-setting earlier. Passion and talent are important, but without a clear roadmap and consistency, it’s easy to feel stuck. Break your big vision into actionable steps, set deadlines for yourself, and hold yourself accountable.
Also, don’t wait for the ‘perfect moment’—start now, even if it’s messy. Every expert was once a beginner, and the only way to grow is to take action and learn as you go. Stay adaptable, keep refining your craft, and never stop learning. The beauty industry—and any creative field—is constantly evolving, so the key is to evolve with it while staying true to what makes your artistry unique.
