Today we’d like to introduce you to Tali.
Hi Tali, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Becoming a barber was a bit unexpected for me. As a child, I dreamed of being an actress, so I moved to NY and joined an acting studio. After a few years I realized it wasn’t the right fit for me, and I began to explore other interests.
At the time, my hair was short and I was getting frequent cuts. I only wanted to learn how to cut my own hair but ended up finding my passion.
When I started my training, I couldn’t help but think of my dad. He used to tell me I had a natural talent with my hands and should find a career that let me use them. Getting my barber license marked the start of something real for me, it’s more than just a job, it’s something I truly love doing.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing truly worthwhile ever comes easy. As with learning any craft, I faced my share of challenges— mastering different haircuts, building consistency and developing the precision required in this profession. Thankfully, I had an amazing support system surrounding me. The barbers I worked with in NY were incredibly talented and generous, they took me under their wing and helped me grow. I’ll always be grateful for their patience and guidance.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
While I don’t claim to specialize in a particular style, I take pride in being versatile. I work at a neighborhood barbershop that’s been part of the community for many years, and I really value the trust and familiarity that comes with that.
From the start of my career, it’s always been important to me to give my best with every cut. I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so I like to take my time to ensure each client leaves happy with their haircut. Over the years I’ve also built strong connections with my clients, some of them have even become like family to me.
How do you think about happiness?
I find happiness in seeing other people happy, especially when it’s the result of something I’ve done for them. There’s a special kind of joy that comes from helping someone feel good about themselves.
My family is also a huge source of happiness in my life, I’m very connected to both my immediate and extended family. I consider myself very lucky to come from such a supportive foundation.
I also love to be in nature. It helps me to stay grounded which is really important to my mental well-being. I’ve always believed that spending time outdoors is the best way to clear your mind and let go of anything heavy or negative and to find beauty in the present.
