Today we’d like to introduce you to Swani Love.
Hi Swani, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in North Carolina, raised in Myrtle Beach, SC. I have traveled back and forth from LA several times and finally made it official. I have many passions including music, film, and fire dancing. My journey with music began when I first picked up a guitar as a kid, however, I never took it seriously until almost two years ago. I am excited to say that I will be dropping my debut single come early 2023. Following my heart with music has lightened the path to starting my nonprofit Live By Love which encourages people to do what they love and spread love along the way. My film journey started in 2019 when I wrote and directed my very first short film, “A.C.E: Adverse Childhood Experiences”. This sparked a passion in me to begin learning everything I could about filmmaking.
That same year, I executive produced a short film called “Stand Up For Something” written and directed by Octavia Ethridge which was recently featured in Indie Film Festival in October. We have since written a feature together. The current project I am on with Octavia is called “The Matriarch” in which I have been given the opportunity to help produce. I have been a part of fire dancing for about three years now. It started when I was asked to Tahitian dance for a show. Then I fell in love with the fire poi and eventually the fire knife. Fire knife has taken precedence over poi and Tahitian. I am absolutely in love with the Samoan art and beyond grateful to participate in such a beautiful culture. Recently I have been accepted into a talent agency called Unlimited Possibilities Music & Talent located in Los Angeles. I am really looking forward to the opportunities this will present.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not, but nothing worth having ever comes easy. Overcoming the fear of following my true passion (music) was certainly a big obstacle. Once I dropped the fear and began living by love, things became a lot smoother. I’ve faced a lot of adversity growing up which meant a lot of healing in adulthood. Healing isn’t linear though, I am just grateful to say so much healing has taken place allowing me to fully pursue all of my passions.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am known for having multiple passions. When I see something that I want to do, it’s rare that I won’t do it. The only thing I have ever feared doing because of a lack of confidence and fear of rejection was pursuing music. I sing and play guitar often singing my own songs as well as some covers. I am also becoming known for my love for filmmaking and seeing a script come to life on the big screen. I believe we are here to experience this human life and what better way through all things creative. I am proud of my ability to not allow others to put me in a box. I want to pursue everything and chase every creative dream that comes to my heart.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the fact it is filled with creatives and visionaries. It is so refreshing to be around people who just want to create and express themselves. It’s hard to think of something I like the least. LA is a whole experience in and of itself.
