Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzanne Wilson.

Suzanne, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey in jewelry design began about 28 years ago. It has been a wild ride!

I am mainly self-taught (gemology degree aside) with the wonderful support of my craftsman & gemstone dealers, I was quickly able to bring my visions to life. It all began as I was contemplating attending art school (approx. 1995), yet with a small child and one on the way, I found the idea of being a student of both motherhood and art daunting and yet I leaned on the forces above and around me to guide me ~and with the belief “if there is a will there is a way”, SWD was born.

My initial and current creativity toward jewelry has always been rooted in vintage jewelry. Taking that inspiration and adding my unique style and design, I create pieces with an heirloom aesthetic.

From D2C initially, I quickly sought representation from a rep, and SWD was then available at specialty store locations as well as a few larger upscale department stores. Sprinkle in a bit of PR and “as seen on” type editorial SWD had quite the exposure. Fast forward to 2007, and that time I chose to focus on raising my children on more of a full-time basis and began my private D2C business, I knew the “internet” would change the world of consumer sales!

Currently, SWD is avail in a few select retail locations, but my main focus is D2C and website sales. SWD offers remote and in-person consults, as well as select pop-up events. (I am currently contemplating reentering the wholesale market again for a further reach outside of my website)

I have been so fortunate to have a dedicated clientele not only for my work but also for my approach to customer service.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am known for my unique designs, fair pricing, but also my custom work. Clients will come in with a stone or a few pieces of jewelry and we sit, discuss desired outcomes~ such as rough ideas as to how one or more of the pieces can be reworked, and the process starts there.

In other cases, the client has jewelry that is of no use to them and if the items are of value, I take them to market and sell them and the client uses that money generated to make a new piece from scratch or purchases from my rotating collection.

In most cases, the item (s) hold sentimental value; therefore, we generally rework and the one-on-one time allows me to get a better understanding of their esthetic and I consult on not only what the piece should be but also how it can be worn.

In other cases, I work with the client to build a custom collection blending heirloom pieces in original condition or reworked with newer pieces too.

I work mainly in 14kt and 18kt; I also source specific stones and offer clients the best quality within their budget.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My attention to detail, unique yet classic approach to design, patience, creativity, and communication with clients. This is key. Clients are treated with the utmost care and respect.
