Conversations with Susana Ama Barron

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susana Ama Barron.

Hi Susana Ama, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In addition to owning an Interpreting and Translation business, I am currently a Spiritual Practitioner, and a Soul Care Coach. I have the great honor and opportunity to work with individuals that are seeking to transform their lives in meaningful ways, or that seek guidance and support while experiencing a life challenge. I serve at various ministries within my church, the Agape International Spiritual Center. And I also assist in other local community organizations that facilitate training and mentoring for individuals that are open to receive this type of guidance. In all honesty, I did not intentionally pursue the practitioner or coaching aspects of my life.

I do this as a way of sharing with my community some of the tools that have supported me in navigating the many challenges I faced in my life about 20 years ago. Some of these challenges had to do with being a single mother of two, and navigating domestic violence issues, child custody, etc. Other challenges involved being a Mexican woman dealing with the aftermaths of family trauma and cultural indoctrination. I have navigated struggles with finances, parenting, and difficult relationships., to name a few. Nonetheless, through it all, and with the support and guidance of Spiritual Teachers and Mentors, I have grown tremendously, and I learned how to use these situations as opportunities to reinvent who I thought I was, into a more empowered version of me. I can only speak from my own experience. And this has become a passion for me, to share my experience and to inspire others to help themselves.

I am a single mother of two now adult children that are currently attending college. In 2018 I chose to relocate from Orange County to Culver City when both my kids were in middle school because of the school district and the artistic opportunities it offers via the AVPA. I am a long time Agape church member, and Agape was located in Culver City at that time. My intention is to be a collaborative component in the growth and development of both my children, and this decision was in alignment to their passion for art.

So I suppose that this is really at the heart of my story. I have based every single one of my decisions in light of what will be at the greatest service for my children and for myself.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been many struggles along the way. The approach that I took in facing and working with those struggles is what has made all the difference.

One example that I can share is when my children were very young and I was not receiving any child support from their father. The financial stress felt beyond overwhelming. Suzi Lula not only guided me through the layers of emotions that I was feeling, but she also taught me to regulate my own nervous system so that I could effectively handle the situation and explore better financial opportunities that far outweighed the financial assistance from the father of my children. This is not to say that I agreed with his actions. Rather to recognize that I had more power and more opportunities available to me beyond that. As I continued to focus all of my energy on nurturing myself, I was able to not only provide for my children, but also thrive.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am passionate about sharing my own story and experience in applying the tools offered by Spiritual Psychology.
Although my training came from my dedication to re-parenting myself, so that I could parent my children from a space of empowerment and wholeness. I honestly never thought I would be in a position of raising my children alone. Once faced with this situation. I felt that there was nothing on this earth that could help me. Through Spiritual Psychology I found that my greatest strength came as an organic result of my own inner healing.

Not only did my life transform as I was able to create greater financial stability. There was tremendous transformation as I was able to stop yelling at my kids, become more patient, and cultivate a truly loving relationship with them. When I became a student of Spiritual Psychology my children were about 7 and 8 years old. So they both witnessed my daily inner work as I learned emotional self-regulation, self forgiveness, self compassion, and the true meaning of self-love. It was not always pretty and it was not always easy. I made so many mistakes along the way.

The greatest part to all of this has been the wonderful opportunity to set a powerful example to my own children, and to my clients and students, about self worth.

Healing myself is the greatest gift I can share with anyone. It is because I know what it feels like to think we are powerless, and hopeless. I know what it feels like to have the outside world reflect situations that seem impossible to overcome, And I also know, from personal experience, that it is absolutely possible to rise above any situation.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I know that in recent years our world has changed dramatically. Given so much talk on mental health, we cannot avoid the fact that the traditional discipline approach in parenting and in aspect of life, does not heal wounds. Deep meaningful connection is what heals. The tools offered by Spiritual Psychology are both practical and meaningful because they are applicable to any situation and to any individual. It is beyond what many people call mindfulness. This is a deeper connection with our hearts, our souls, and our bodies. It is only in the integration of all aspects of ourselves that we can truly grow as human beings.

There are big changes coming in the next few years. Spiritual Psychology is an empowering tool for anyone because as we do our own inner work, we have access to the one resource that no outside institution can ever take away from us or monopolize. This is our human spirit.

My intention is to continue to work alongside powerful teachers and share this work with our community.

Ama is collaborating with Suzi Lula in the production of an upcoming in person retreat in October.
It is called SANCTUARY: A RETURN TO YOUR SOUL. The retreat will be held in Marina del Rey Hotel, October 10 thru the 12th. This retreat is a sacred, soul-nourishing retreat, lovingly created for those who are ready to pause, exhale, and return to themselves. Over the course of this transformative retreat, you will be gently guided back home—to your heart, your intuition, your essence – your most Authentic Self.
This is more than a retreat.
This is a Soul retrieval.
